Notre Dame Early Action for Fall 2022 Admission

Thanks, and boy do I feel for these kids who didn’t see the results they were hoping. No legacies. A lot of leadership through robotics and Boy Scouts, a couple of internships, but no sports, wasn’t sure how strong letters would be as his school didn’t open back up last year. His essays were quite strong, IMO.

I think it just depends on the school and circumstance, they are all very different. Sounds like you did what you thought was best and I’m sure it will pay off and work out in the end. One thing everyone can agree on is that college admissions is not a fair process and almost a game of chance if you don’t have a hook or some kind of disparity. You could’ve done all AP and still gotten the same result. Med school for us too, best of luck!

It’s definitely a crap shoot! I hate the whole process for these kids!

Great stats!, similar to my daughter. Maybe you will get in RD, if not, some other school is going to benefit from ND’s decision! Good luck!

Does anyone know how ND issues invitations to the Gateway program with Holy Cross? Would that be one version of a decision? Congrats to all who got in tonight!

@LSA1994 - why do you have a Michigan avatar and are asking about ND Gateway? LOL. There is a dedicated to thread on Gateway Program - I read those posts last year.

I’m a Michigan Alum! I have a client applying this year to ND so I have a rooting interest in the process.

And thank you. I will check out that thread.

DS denied. Such a head scratcher. 1510 SAT; 3.9UW/4.3W taking most difficult course load school offers. Top 5% of class. Two 4-credit college courses in intended major at Harvard and Tufts. Two varsity sports at very competitive HS (8 seasons total). Captain, MVP, first team all state in one. 10 APs. Pres of Speech/Debate; Pres/Founder of French Club; NHS; AP Scholar; Tons of volunteer hours. Solid other ECs and leadership; FT job each summer since 14 yo. Strong essays incl one about friend who texted my son while considering suicide second week of school and my son intervened which set him on track for psych to study depression. Not an URM, legacy or real specific hooks. This process is certainly not for the feint of heart!

Your son sounds like an amazing person.

Thank you. Wish it shone through enough to get him at least a deferral. Not our first rodeo so intellectually we get the randomness of it but it still stings.

So random!, and I’m tired of hearing admissions deny it😂
This is hard on a mommas heart for sure. He sounds like a great candidate and will land where he’s supposed to be.

I’ve seen two acceptance so far from our high school. Boys mid 30’s ACT.

Your son sounds like a great kid and so awesome that he intervened for his friend. My son was also rejected with a 1560 SAT, 3.9 GPA, 8 APs and lots of leadership in ECs. Unfortunately this is going to be a rough year for kids getting into to College with a large birth cohort, record application numbers and test optional applications.

Our high school had two other students accepted (in addition to my daughter).

One was a legacy, and ND is her dream school. I am so happy for her. The other student isn’t a legacy. I do not know their stats, but both of them are in the top 5% of their class.

ACCEPTED:

1460 SAT, top 2% of class at catholic high school, 10+ relatives who have attended (NOT LEGACY though), fbla state president, paid social media intern, class president, key club, business owner (LLC), then some other activities to add up to 10. 4x fbla state champ, NHS, community project 2x grant winner, fbla nationals runner up

probably will not attend because I don’t qualify for much aid! congrats to everyone who got in, and if you got deferred you still have a chance!

I am so sorry your son was rejected. Notre Dame is SO weird with who they accept, and obviously all schools have whack admissions, but theirs especially is strange. The valedictorian at my high school was accepted (our val is pretty much ALWAYS in), and he did not do much! He didn’t have max rigor (3 total APs), did football for 4 years (varsity for 2, jv for 2), was tutoring director for NHS, and then did key club. Not a legacy, but we do attend a Catholic high school.

It’s Notre Dame’s loss though, concerning your son. Everything will work out though, just have to trust the process!

also should have said this but graduating with 5 APs, took 2 exams and received 4’s, essays were kinda bad (I picked the ‘what would you fight for’ and indirectly called out ND and other schools for not embracing free speech lol), CA essay was decent though. Letters of recommendation I have not seen but a school did mention part of my counselor’s letter in a letter to me and it definitely reflected me in a good light!
