Notre Dame football: Big 10 or Bust?

Not sure the Big10 will change its name no matter how many teams are in the conference. When Nebraska was added, the Big 12 (which had just lost Colorado and Nebraska) asked the Big10 if it wanted to swap names (Big10 at that point had 12 teams and the Big 12 had 10). The Big10 wasn’t interested. They did add “11” to the logo under the “T” when Penn State was added but that was gone with adding Nebraska. The conference sees value in the name beyond identifying the number of teams in the conference.

Link for this? I have followed realignment closely for many years and this is the first mention of this I have ever seen.

Thanks!

Rebranding ideas:

Big Daddy
Big Double-Digits

(hehe)

or just make it the one-word stylized B1G

How about The Conference Formerly Known as the Big 10?

I guess the G already almost looks like a 6…

That could work. Add ND and another team and you can probably work an 8 in there as well.

Exactly. I look at number of commitments and average rating. A&M has only six commitments but has an average recruit rating of 92.0 which is comparable to UT-Austin. However, the Longhorns have 20 commitments. Long way to go but OSU and ND are off to a great start with 93.7 and 93.3 average recruit rankings and 19-20 commitments apiece.

Wow! Big :moneybag: for new Big 10 TV deal……

The Big Ten Conference has reached the richest-ever television agreement for a college athletic league, selling the rights to its competitions for an average of at least $1 billion a year.

The seven-year arrangement cements the Big Ten as one of the nation’s pre-eminent college sports leagues, but it promises to fuel the intensifying debate over how universities should treat athletes who are not paid salaries.

“Titus and Tate” podcast talked about some smoke surrounding Stanford, Cal, Washington, & Oregon to the Big 10. Arizona, ASU, Utah and Colorado would join the Big 12. Oregon State and Washington State would be left out to join a smaller conference.

yes, CBS Sports had a couple of tweets on that this past week, but much of it is just strategic thinking and posturing. Evidently, the BiG has had feelers with Amazon Prime to see if their is any interest to become a partner adn distribute non-prime games, such Cal-Minnesota.

It wouldn’t surprise me if they ended up in the Mountain West with Colorado State, Boise, Air Force, etc. (if the other PAC 12 go as listed to Big 10 and Big 12). Many of the Mountain West schools are also land grant schools.
