@stressedout18 I had the same issue since my teacher didn’t even know what faith I was. I basically just emailed her and told her that if that question was posed she could say that I valued religious diversity and I told her what faith I associated with, but that was it. Since this particular program does not have a religious basis I’m working under the assumption that the other parts of the recommendation will be more important.
Do you guys think it’s more advantageous to submit a resume or the activity guides they provide?
@stressedout18 i’m not really sure but i think im going to do both it couldn’t hurt
also
anyone willing to compare stats/provide some thoughts
4.0 GPA unweighted(no class rank)
5 aps total (1 soph/4 junior yr)
currently waiting for PSAT score
pretty strong extracuriculars:
working 2 jobs/had a summer job
plenty of volunteer hours within school and the community
have the whole theatre troupe/band nerd/music awards spiel
geographic diversity(NY) and was not born in the united states, however no religious affiliation
i’m sure i’ll have great recs and essays, my only issue is lack of leadership roles besides one at work and a few insignificant ones at school
for those of you applying who took the psat, how did you do?
@peliz18 i got a 1450, what about you?
for the prompt about significant experiences and achievements, are you guys writing about more than one?
@stressedout18 you can and probably should, but i was recommended to have them all tie in together to show how they’ve “shaped you” as a whole
My son applied and was accepted and went to the ND leadership seminar last summer and LOVED IT. He was grateful for the precollege experience and especially grateful that ND paid for the flight and the whole trip unlike most precollege programs that are upwards of 6000 dollars. He had Global leadership as his first choice but got his second choice of Arts but had an amazing experience so there are really no bad choices . Yes def. they are looking for kids with GREAT STATS but this is a program about diversity so you can have wonderful stats but not be diverse and not get in. Yes they took some white Catholic students but they were far and few between. The majority of the students were geographically diverse, first generations, socioeconomically disadvantaged, URM(under repr. minorities) and religiously diverse(NOT CATHOLIC). My son is Jewish. Basically much like the fly-in programs that other top schools have to recruit diverse students, this is ND version of fly-ins. Like other past participants have said on the thread ND is a Catholic school and yes there was daily mass but you didn’t have to go if you didn’t want to. However this is a recruitment tool for ND to get more diverse applicants at their university so its important if you go to this program to see if you would feel comfortable being a college student at ND and yes that includes the majority of students being Catholic and faith being an important part of the ND college experience. My son has followed many of the 100 students who went and many applied and going to ND next fall. Don’t quote me but I think about 40 percent. My son will not be one of those students. He was grateful for the experience but recognized that being Jewish would be difficult at ND. Def. apply even if not diverse as nothing ventured nothing gained but don’t put all your eggs in one basket if you are not diverse and don’t have great stats. Other amazing FREE precollege programs available too. My son researched these on CC threads to include TELLURIDE, Carnegie Mellon Sams,Williams math camp, Boys and girls state, and many many others. He applied to many free programs and much like the college admission process stats got accepted to some programs, wait listed at some, and rejected at some. He went to Williams Math camp and boys state in addition to ND last summer.
I hope I’ll be alright… My application semi-deleted as I was about to turn it in, and I submitted the application about three minutes late. I emailed them, but are they extremely stringent on the deadlines? I imagine with over 800 applications, it would be easy to cross mine out.
I think you will be okay if the system still let you submit the application. usually after deadlines have passed for applications (precollege and college)you wont be able to submit the app but I could be wrong.
My teacher said she already turned in the recommendation but it says awaiting for the status?
Time to wait! For those of you who applied, what were your stats?
ACT: 36
PSAT: 1450
GPA: 4.0/4.0 unweighted
Ranking: 8/760
AP: 5 on Calc BC and currently in APUSH, English, Computer Science, Chemistry, and Physics 1
EC: a lot of leadership roles in school, soccer, some job experience as a tutor and soccer referee, debate, average volunteering hours
I’m surprised this thread hasn’t gotten many comments. Previous years’ have been filled. Good luck to everyone!
Hello all,
I’ve posted on previous forums before and some people have reached out to me. I attended NDLS back in 2014 and am now a freshman at Notre Dame. NDLS was one of the best experiences I could have asked for and I’m always excited to talk about it. (I’m even applying to be a counselor for it this summer) If you have any questions about the program or Notre Dame feel free to message me and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
I submitted my application.
Waiting for the results.
Submitted my app too but now seeing some stats from others - am a bit concerned. I have a 4.4 weighted gpa, 5 AP/honors courses this year, 5 my sophmore year also. President of club, debate and other involvement in school and community service. My psat was rather low 1300 (720 reading/writing; 580 math). As a junior, I have not taken other SATs yet. Am from New England - not very diverse. Any thought anyone? Thanks & good luck all!
Thank you for sharing your experience. If you don’t mind, could you share your high school stats - just as a comparison for the summer program as well as getting into Notre Dame. TY!
SAT: 2130
GPA: 10.0/10.0 (UW)
A lot of extra curricular activities including volunteering activities.
Founded the country’s first hackathon for high school students.
Captain of school soccer team.
No choice for courses at high school (Have already taken Algebra, Trigonometry, Pre Calculus, English, Social Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Foreign Language)
Leader of Student Government
Won 8 Model United Nations Conferences across the country.
Won numerous National Level Competitions.
I considered these enough to include in the application for the leadership seminars. Rest, I included in the CV and uploaded it.
Hope that helps.
Hey guys!! I really hope I’ll get the chance to meet a lot of you this summer. I have a question regarding sending in extra information. Since I submitted my application, I got my PSAT score back (1490), one SAT Subject Test (World History 740), and also got a debate bid to the National Tournament of Champions. Should I send this info? Will it affect my chances at all? Will they be vexed that I am adding on to my materials? My other stats were posted right at the start of this thread.
@fortmorgan Which one are you applying for?
@11kysta Did you submit a CV and fill in their “extracurriculars” form? I was under the impression that we should only choose one, so I only uploaded my CV
