Anybody applying to the Notre Dame Leadership Seminar for this summer?
Yes, my daughter is. From what I understand this is Notre Dame’s talent search…their way of attracting very selective, diversity candidates that might otherwise choose the ivies. If selected for the Leadership Seminar, admission to Notre Dame is pretty much a given. I don’t think attending this program will help w/ admission to other colleges though. However, it would be a wonderful summer experience. The kids who have attended speak very highly of their time spent there. Good Luck!
My daughter attended this several years ago and now attends ND. I agree with the above post, although I do believe that a student who had previously attended NDLS was waitlisted at ND last year, so it’s not a total lock. I think they are moving toward an emphasis on diversity along with very high stats for the kids it chooses for the seminar.
@suzy100 Interesting that a student that was admitted to the Leadership Seminar was later waitlisted. Makes me wonder if they spend time observing and getting to know the kids at the seminar, and then if they realize one of them is not a good fit for Notre Dame they bring that knowledge into their admission decisions.
@suzy100 did your daughter like the program? I am assuming she must’ve considering she now attends ND. Did she find it a valuable use of time?
Hi guys! I’m currently a high school senior who went to NDLS last year, and it was honestly one of the greatest experiences of my life so far! Regardless of your child’s desire to go to Notre Dame itself, the program opened my eyes to college life and gave me the opportunity to stretch myself in all aspects of my life: mentally, spiritually, and academically. I had countless adventures and made friends that I still talk to today. The people are just incredible, and the atmosphere of such bright students all together are honestly priceless. ND is my top choice currently, and I’ll be hearing from them in a few weeks. If you have any questions, please let me know. I’d be more than happy to answer them. I can’t stress how amazing this program was.
Sending in my application tonight. Best of luck to everyone applying!
@matt4567890 … would you mind sharing whether you got into ND after having attended the seminar?
Yes, I am applying, I am just about done and plan to submit later today.
Hope to submit soon as well. It seems like an interesting program as well as a inside look at a college I am strongly considering.
how did yall format the second essay about defining experiences and accomplishments?
Hi everyone!
I’m applying for the global affairs program and I’d love to go to ND for undergrad… I literally have the ND college information letter hanging on my wall. Just some background info - I’ve only taken the PSAT, and got a 1460/1520. My GPA is a 4.55 out of a 5.00 and a 3.88 out of a 4.00. My stats aren’t super impressive, but I excel at debate (doing well on the state and national level), Model UN, and am on the UIL Academics Team, where I compete in Current Events.
I really want to attend this program, but I know that the competition to get in is exceptionally high. What do you all think about my chances of being accepted solely based on my stats? Just some other stuff: I’m Indian and I’m from Texas. Also, I’m fully aware that they heavily take the teacher recs and essays into account.
@Sidvin24 You sound like a very strong candidate. Good luck!
Hi! This is my first time ever commenting on CC. Notre Dame is one of my top choice colleges and I would be so happy to attend this leadership seminar! I was wondering if I should apply if I am not an URM. I come from a low-income background, though–does this have any affect on admissions?
I have a 1480 PSAT but a not-so-good SAT.
4.00 GPA
My ECs:
Orchestra and string quartet
Key Club–treasurer (10), communications (11) (coordinate volunteer dates with a medical-missions related nonprofit)
Intern at local online newspaper (one of my articles featured the mentioned nonprofit and has led others in the community to volunteer there)
A girls STEM club (that just started this year though and not much has happened yet )
I also entered a short-story contest recently, but unfortunately, results won’t be out until the spring. I might be chosen to represent my school though.
Volunteering at church in nursery, preschool classroom, food baskets, VBS, etc.
Do I have any shot at all? I will probably apply just for the heck of it and because I love ND.
Thanks for any help!
@Findthejoy Definitely apply to the program! Which specific seminar are you thinking of applying to?
@Jt128b Thanks! Probably the Science, Ethics, and Responsibility seminar, because I’m interested in medicine. I just would need to find the time to write essays.

Is the application due at 11:59 on February 12, or is it due before February 12 actually comes, like before 12 am on February 12? I’m scared my counselor won’t submit her part on time, and I want to be able to ask her on Monday if I really have to…
Hi everyone! I’m applying, but I’m really nervous about whether or not I’ll get in, especially after seeing the stats from last year! Chance me if you want to:
Competitive all girls private school
GPA: about 3.8 UW/4.3 W
all honors and APs
1280 on SAT (bad, I know, but it was my first time without any practice/tutoring… ugh)
22/24 on SAT essay
ECs: three season varsity athlete, girl scout in process of getting gold award (like eagle scout), summer lifeguard, head/founder of latin club, peer advisor, lots of community service, attended VJCL conference (latin conference) & global issues forum in my city… theres more ECs but I can’t think of them all right now lol
I’m pretty good at essays so hopefully that will help, and I get really good grades.
