also can anybody who was accepted last year share their stats?? it would be really helpful in gauging chances. thanks!!
@mmb333 I think it wouldn’t hurt to apply. Your extracurriculars are impressive and if you write your essays well I think you have a shot of getting in. Good luck!
@Jt128b Did you list your activities, upload your resume, or both?
Also, if you want, do you think I could share my essays with you? (I don’t know if anyone other than my parents will be able to read them, and I don’t know if they really address the prompts).
@findthejoy I only listed my activities. It is my understanding that you should only do one of them, and pick the top 10 (or less) that you have had the most involvement with.
I would be happy to read over your essays! But just so that you know, I am applying for this year’s program as well.
@Jt128b Would it be alright for me to PM them to you in an hour or hour-and-a-half?
@Jt128b Also, thanks for letting me know about the activities section!
@findthejoy sorry for the late(ish) response. If you pm them to me I would read them over.
I applied, but I feel like I don’t have they are looking for in regards to leadership experience and I’m not super confident about my essays.
@1t1a11 My essays were not great either. Good luck to you!
@Jt128b Thanks, you too!
@1t1a11 I feel the same way! I wrote my seminar essay this weekend and am still working on my personal one. Both are pretty boring, in my opinion, and not as good as they could have been had I decided to apply sooner. BUT. . . at least I won’t regret not applying.
Even if you don’t get accepted, its not even necessarily reflective of your application’s quality, since this program is so competitive.
Which seminar did you apply to?
@Findthejoy I applied to the Science, Ethics and Responsibility Seminar! What did you write your seminar essay over? I wrote mine over the artificial modification of genes and it probably ended up being way too broad.
@1t1a11 That’s a good idea! I actually ended up changing my first choice to the Arts, Pop Culture, and Social Change Seminar and wrote about the responsibility of artists to represent their gender, ethnic, etc. group. Mine was kind of broad too, but with only 300 words, I don’t think ND wants tons of specific details, but rather evidence of interest or thought.
When I was planning on applying to the science seminar, I was thinking of writing either about artificial intelligence, or on something about genes (kind of like you did).
@Findthejoy @1t1a11 I applied to the Global Issues: Towards a Just Peace seminar. Our seminar essay asked about the biggest issues in the global world today. I wrote about educational disparity and lack of accessible health care.
@Jt128b Cool! That sounds like a good choice of topic! I really really hope we are all able to be accepted!
Does anyone know if the application is due before midnight hits tonight? I’m pretty much ready to submit, but if I could have until tomorrow to polish my essays I’d rather do that.
@1t1a11 @Findthejoy is it bad that I wrote about smartphones lol
@jsmith1 you could totally write a meaningful essay about smartphones
@jsmith1 I don’t think so! That’s actually what my chemistry teacher suggested I write about when I told her I was going to apply to the science seminar.
@jsmith1 No, I almost wrote about something similar, so I think you’re good
