ND, Duke, Stanford and the Ivies alumni all over the country. ND has a very large endowment $5-6 billion and ND football saturdays are truely unique.

“ND, Duke, Stanford and the Ivies alumni all over the country.”

These are many schools with alumni all over the country. Not sure why this is relevant to this conversation.

“A more significant difference is to be found in the off-campus opportunities in in Cambridge v. South Bend.”

That is an understatement!

I don’t think there is any doubt that ND has a much, much superior alumni base than BC. To get a job out of school is becoming harder and harder and in these economic time every advantage you can get is huge. That’s why the alumini is brought into play, rjk.

And yes, although Boston is better than SB by a long shot, it’s college either way. If you can’t find something to do in college and enjoy yourself, than your missing something. You don’t need a big city to have fun.

^Job placement. Also ND alumni are extermely loyal to the school and helping fellow Domers.

Among Catholic schools ND AND Holy Cross have greater than 50% alumni giving rates which places them with the IVIES, Williams, Duke, Colgate etc. Big plus in today’s economy.

Holy Cross?

Par72 works for Holy Cross, which really shouldn’t even be in the conversation.

One of Boston College’s strong points is its excellent alumni connections

rofl as soon as i saw the username i knew that holy cross would somehow be included in that post

BC- MUCH better location, just as good academics. unless of course you want to live in the middle of nowhere than by all means pick ND.

I got in at Georgetown & BC thru EA, but went RD at ND. GT is out for me, so if I get into ND this week I’ll have a tough choice. I’m leaning BC now… Boston vs. South Bend

This is a little late but after reading all of these messages, let me clarify so that there is no longer any ambiguity on these message boards. I am totally unbiased to Notre Dame and Boston College, and I have been a student at both schools. Both are excellent choices and to have gotten into both certainly was not an easy endeavor. However, to suggest that Boston College is in any way superior to Notre Dame because of its location is ridiculous. Let me reiterate that; to suggest that Boston College is in any way superior to Notre Dame because of its location is ridiculous. Both are strong academically but Notre Dame is a better school academically, more prestigious, has a stronger alumni network, and possesses a better campus atmosphere with a more affable student body. If I had the choice, I would pick ND 10/10 over BC. You have the edge with your ND degree in the job market, and you will easily obtain a job in Boston over BC grads and you can live in Boston for the rest of your life. BC is in Newton, not Boston, and the Green Line is extremely slow getting into the heart of Boston. You won’t be in Boston, you will be on BC’s campus 98 percent of the time. ND’s campus>BC’s campus, and guess what? ON ND’s Campus You won’t have to climb stairs all the time! A 4.0 at ND trumps a 4.0 at BC, thats just the way it is right now. Boston College students aren’t dumb, they’re smart, but ND students are homogeneously smarter. BC students can land jobs in the NorthEast, but if you want to work across the country then you better have a 4.0 with connections or be in CSOM honors. This post is meant to educate prospective college students. South Bend isn’t that bad because you will be on ND’s beautiful campus all the time. Go where your heart tells you, but it should be telling you ND. With hard work and an ND degree (or maybe even BC degree…?) the world will be yours.

Both are great but I consider Notre Dame to be the stronger university

Neither. Go to Georgetown.

Also, who cares about Holy Cross? Easily one of the most insignificant schools ever.

Maybe the ~3,000 students who chose to go there? And the hundreds of people who choose to work there. And all the alumni who love their alma mater. Hardly insignificant to those people, and I really don’t understand the need to insult these people by bashing their school.

y’all do recognize that this is a 2+ year-old thread on which you are commenting…

ND,Holy Cross, GTOWN, Boston College recognized as best Catholic schools in the country.

I would rather live in Boston or D.C. than South Bend. ND, BC and Georgetown are all fantastic schools and very similar in almost all respects. I would visit the cities and the campuses and see where you can see yourself living and exploring for four years.

I agree with what everyone else (other than Par72, who works for Holy Cross) has said regarding Holy Cross not being on the same level as Georgetown, BC or ND. Holy Cross is a decent enough liberal arts school, but it should not be considered a peer of Georgetown, BC or ND.
