Notre Dame or UMich

Hey guys, I am an international student from Asia. I am planning to major in business. Right now I am choosing between Notre Dame and UMich (arts and science college). No FA needed.

I am very happy with the fact that ND's business school Mendoza has been ranked 1st twice in a row since last year (according to Business Week). I love the beautiful ND campus and I am okay with the Catholic atmosphere.

I am impressed by UMich's high international prestige (according to US News it's ranked 15th internationally while ND isn't even in the top 100..) and I like UMich's large and diverse student body.

Since I plan to major in business, it is quite risky to go to UMich because there is no guarantee that I will get in to Ross School of business in my second year. (I was rejected for Ross pre-admit) But for ND, Mendoza is free to enter in my second year as long as I have an interest in business.

So... I don't know lol. What do you guys think?

Also, do either of these universities have grade inflation?

thanks :D

I am not 100% sure about the comment of “Mendoza is free to enter in my second year”. It is true that you enter the university without a declared area of study and choose the second year. However, I am thinking there is a limited number of openings in the business program. Someone may be able confirm on here or post your concern on the ND forum or better yet, look at the ND website and do some research on this. Hate to see you make an assumption and it not be what you are thinking. Good Luck.

Thanks for the reminder. I’ve just confirmed that Mendoza accepts any ND student that are interested in business as long as they take some required classes in my first year. :D

Soo… any suggestions?

I would say notre dame… Its a fantastic school. The only negative I can see is that it could be “too” catholic.

Moreover, Umich does not have great job prospects afterwards… maybe something you would want to consider. One more thing… their classes would be huge unlike ND.

Esp if you want to study business, consider ND… you cant go wrong-- its been ranked above wharton!

I doubt if many people in the US would see that much difference between them in the quality of undergrad education.
