Well, now is probably a good time to start the ND Regular Decision Thread. Please post any related questions and/or comments here.
Very best of luck and success to all students applying Regular Decision and those deferred to RD from REA!

When will be most likely to be the decision date?
@andrea391 Regular Decision Date for the Class of 2023 will be on or around 03/19/2019 at 6:42 pm EST. Best of luck!
@hpcsa thanks! wow how did you know that specific?
@andrea391 1842 is the year the University of Notre Dame was founded - 18:42 in military time/6:42 pm EST, the time decisions will be posted. Best of luck!
@hpcsa Thanks for kindly explaining Thank you so much and have a rest of the good day!
As Don Bishop said in a recent Observer article: “Lower-income households, first-generation households don’t apply as early and want more time to decide and spend more time applying …"
This clearly suggests that ND will seek to enhance the Regular Decision Admission Program, as already has happened this admission cycle. The question then becomes whether Notre Dame, comparably to Boston College
https://www.bc.edu/content/bc-web/bcnews/campus-community/announcements/early-decision.html
would not be well advised to change the current REA program over to ED as well. ND early application numbers reflect the growing trend of some students and their parents to seek an earlier resolution to their college admission process. Obviously, in view of Bishop’s above insights, this trend does come at the detriment of lower-income, first-generation households - which is why an Early Decision program, as opposed to REA which comes with few strings attached, will help to keep early application numbers in check and therefore will noticeably re-emphasize ND Regular Admissions by redefining them to their original intent: Notre Dame’s standard undergraduate admission program.
Representatives from the University administration discussed the importance of providing access to higher education to individuals of all economic backgrounds in a panel discussion at Notre Dame on Wednesday:
"“If colleges are truly to become instruments of positive social change, then it’s the responsibility of all colleges and universities to seek students who might come from backgrounds that are more economically challenged — so students of lower socioeconomic situations,” Mundy said. “And the good news on this front, as we talk about making college more accessible — and I suppose getting at the ethics of it all — is this population has become highly sought-after by just about every one of my colleagues in the profession.”
Bob Mundy, Director of Notre Dame Undergraduate Admissions
We submitted the CSS Profile today that listed 7 different universities where I applied. Ironically, when we went to upload tax return information into the IDOC system, the only university that had requested information, so far, inside my portal was Notre Dame. Does that mean anything? Just curious if ND requests Financial Aid from every applicant this early?
@northstarfx Congratulations to the FA head start and good luck with your pending RD applications!
At need-blind colleges and universities Admission and Financial Aid are discrete processes for domestic undergraduate applicants. With the exception of some selected cases, Notre Dame has not taken Regular Admission decisions for the class of 2023 yet.
Given the high number of Regular Decisions applicants and the intent to provide Financial Aid information as close to any Admission decision as possible, the Office of Financial Aid works hard to get financial reviews ready and completed in time. Depending on any detailed information requested subsequently, the Office of Financial Aid will likely conduct complete reviews on applicants with higher likelihood of admission first. IDOC, which requires tax information from all CSS Profile applicants, does not fall into this category, however. Again, best of luck and success!
@hpsca I noticed that you posted Tuesday, March 19th as a likely decision release date. Do you mind sharing if that is based on some information from ND or just an estimate? Looking back at the last few years, it looks like the REA and RD decisions were released on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday. Last year, RD was released on Wednesday March 21 and in December, REA decisions were released on Friday the 14th. Does anyone else have information about the RD release date? Thx
@RFM1617 Thank you for your message. I previously posted in response to a question by @andrea391 “Regular Decision Date for the Class of 2023 will be on or around 03/19/2019 at 6:42 pm EST”, suggesting on or around March 19th, which is my current estimate. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions will determine the actual RD decision date based on workload and other factors. The ND RD decision date is unlikely to be announced before results will be posted at 6:42 pm EST that day. @RFM1617, hope this helps. Best of luck and success!
Thanks so much.
RD announcements are always released at 6:42 PM (military time 1842, the year the University of Notre Dame was founded). I checked back and saw that my daughter acceptance announcement was on March 18 (2016). Good luck to all.
For reference, included below are the Class of 2022 Regular Decision Announcement and Decision Results threads for those waiting:
Is anyone really tense about this? Notre Dame has been my dream school for two years and I just want to know my decision, ahhh.
@bellab5 my son is also waiting and very anxious. try to enjoy your March…time is going so fast for you Seniors…and I suspect even faster once all is settled and done. You will end up at your dream school…one way or another.
Recent release dates were:
3/18/16 - Fri
3/20/17 - Mon
3/21/18 - Wed
So, we might assume it will be on a Fri this year, to continue the pattern…so maybe 3/15 or 3/22…
OR, we might assume it will be be a Wed this year, since it was a Wed. last year AND the date was the 20th in 2017, so we could assume 3/20/19 will be the big day…
OR, they may decide to confound people like me and release on 3/19 as someone above guesstimated.
We’ll definitely hear by 4/1/19
when is the soonest applicants are usually notified of a decision date? A few days before or not until they actually are released?
@acpv24 It is customary that there is no separate notification date announcement by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions before REA or RD decisions are being posted. Best of luck!
