Reflection

Strengths: Strong test scores, course rigor, extracurriculars, maybe legacy?
Weaknesses: Essays were creative ideas but could have used some improvement in terms of writing
Why you think you were accepted: Racial and geographical diversity (from the South…pretty positive NO ONE else in my area applied to ND), strong stats, genuine interest (legacy and great Why Notre Dame essay)
Where else were you: So far only UGA, still waiting for other decisions
Where do you expect you will attend and why? Not sure yet…high possibility of Notre Dame, but depends on how much financial aid/merit scholarship money I received and where else I get accepted

General Comments: Overall, I’m really happy that I got into Notre Dame, and especially Mendoza! I know that if I do decide to attend, I’ll have an amazing experience.

State: In Midwest
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Gender: Female
Income Bracket: High
Hooks: Female in STEM

Reflection

Strengths: Test scores, grades, extracurriculars, leadership
Weaknesses: Common App essay, service
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: My extracurriculars and leadership are very strong and are supported by high grades and test scores
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted at 4 private Catholic & 2 public (none nearly as high tier as Notre Dame)
Where do you expect you will attend and why? Waiting to hear back about scholarships from all schools. My family will likely not qualify for financial aid and cannot afford the sticker price of Notre Dame; hoping some miracle occurs and everything works out. Otherwise, I will probably attend either an OOS public school I have received a major scholarship from or one of the private schools (if I end up receiving one of their full tuition scholarships). Regardless of how everything plays out, it will be a tough decision!

General Comments: I didn’t realize how much I wanted to attend Notre Dame until I was refreshing my portal, waiting for the decision. It’s truly an honor to be able to consider such an amazing school for the place I will spend the next four years of my life.

Gender: Male
Income Bracket: 100k-150k
Hooks: not sure if any

Reflection

Strengths: my essays were great, I felt my ND essays were the best I wrote. Strong SAT score, rec letters, and grades. Internship obviously helped. Amount of work experience is fairly unique.

Weaknesses: Not a great diversity of extracurriculars, no leadership positions held, and little community service.

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
Internship, essays

Where do you expect you will attend and why?
ND isn’t my #1, but would be a great place to attend.

Accepted

Objective:
SAT I (breakdown): 1560 superscore 800 math 760 English
ACT (breakdown): n/a
SAT II: 800 math II
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.96
Weighted GPA: 4.479
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): n/a
AP (place score in parenthesis): 3 in BC calc, submitted to ND before score came in (don’t do that), had taken IB HL 1 (no test until HL 2) so it was just extra to see if I could get some credit

Teacher Rec #1: 9/10, math teacher who I’ve had two years and who also teaches TOK so is a strong writer
Teacher Rec #2: 8/10, English teacher who I had to ask last minute due to complications w my other recs so probably could have been more personal but definitely is a great writer and hyped me up
Counselor Rec: 8/10 I started the year with a new counselor who then had an injury and was out for two months so the IB coordinator wrote it for me, probably consisted of the difficulty of the ib diploma
Additional Rec: no
Interview: no

Other

Applied for Financial Aid?: yes
Intended Major: math
State (if domestic applicant): Virginia
Country (if international applicant):
School Type: Public secondary school
Ethnicity: white
Gender: female
Income Bracket: middle income for our are but overall high
Hooks: two alum parents and love for Notre Dame since the womb

Reflection

Strengths: GPA, IB diploma, SAT
Weaknesses: my essays were really rushed, was slightly worried my English teacher rec would be impersonal but upon reflection she’d definitely set me up for success
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: strengths in many areas so appealing to the holistic process
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: ND was my first response back
Where do you expect you will attend and why? ND is the first place I’ve heard from but most likely here. Yale Chicago and Princeton or the Villanova presidential scholarship would be the only factors with potential to change that

General Comments: not the thing to mention in a post about comparing yourself to others but seriously once you have submitted your apps it makes life so much less stressful when you walk away from the comparisons and just trust in yourself to pull through. Regardless of ND decision, you will end up where you’re meant to be!! Best of luck to all RD candidates

Hopefully the folks in the 2023 RD pool and next year’s applicants will find this results thread as helpful as I found prior year’s threads.

IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
Senior Year Course Load: AP Calc BC, AP Physics, AP Comp/Lit, AP Micro/Macro, Civics course, Spanish IV (which is absolutely killing me), sports teams
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Doubtful these qualify as “major” but… National Merit commendation, some AP Scholar certificate, NHS, Calif Scholarship Federation, All-League 1st team Cross Country & Track & Field, and just “team-based” Robotics stuff, won the Juniors overall title in 2-man beach volleyball at a fairly major SoCal event

Summer Activities:
Spent the last 2 summers as a high school intern working in the Athletic Department of a large Pac-12 Conference school. Really really cool environment, but my role was mundane stuff. I can operate a printer and run the copy machine like you would not believe. (Also played in competitive beach volleyball tourneys for fun.)
