Notre Dame v. UPenn (Wharton)

Hi, I am new to this forum. I was admitted to both Notre Dame and UPenn. I don't know which one to pick. I plan to major in business so I would be in Mendoza if I go to ND, Wharton if I go to UPenn. I'm planning to do finance/economics/economic public policy. I know UPenn is strong in all of those fields (esp. finance); ND is pretty strong in economics and has a very strong political science department (makes up for the public policy concentration that Wharton offers). ND seems to have a better community than UPenn, and classes don't seem as 'cut throat' as Wharton's. I visited both campuses and I loved both of them. Also, my sister is at UPenn, my best friend will be at ND. Thanks for your opinions!

I’m awfully curious as to the thinking behind “Wharton is so cut throat.” It’s end of the year and kids are graduating from college and hunting for the same jobs. ND’s reputation is a lot worse than Wharton’s and the competition and rigor in wharton will make for a much stronger job applicant. You want a sheltered upbringing in ND? Go for it. You want to learn business and have the immortal reputation of Wharton on your resume, go for it. To me, the choice is obvious.

Yeah, not sure how you could be comparing the two

I’ve never understood why people think Wharton is “cut throat.” Other than a really annoying MGMT 100 class, my Wharton classes are usually the easiest. There are so many URMs, athletes, and legacies here that the curve tends to work in your favor.

Good call, AstonMartin. I hadn’t really thought about that as much. And I also heard MGMT is annoying haha… Yea to answer OP’s question there is honestly no comparison here, and on top of that the community at Penn will be more diverse and better for business in the long run anyways. If you think you will get a better network than Wharton you have to be kidding. And think about it, will you be prepared to do business with people from all over the world if you spend your business education collaborating with predominantely white, catholic, conservative people?

the princeton/wharton topic makes sense. this topic, on the other hand, is flat out ■■■■■■■■.

in terms of networking haha…so my grandmother works at the Capitol (law stuff) and is friends with a bunch of people in high places and has been sending my resume out to her friends, and one friend happens to have a sister who when to Wharton for her MBA and is the head of Wharton Women in D.C., and she gave my resume to her…so who knows if this will produce anything, but still, the network seems pretty wide. And I just thought this was cool and very demonstrative!

Go to Notre Dame. No question.

which ever one that has better financial aid lol…even though i am going to penn…wharton is over-rated…do ND…if i didn’t get in penn ED i would have def go to ND for their business school
