I want to major in economics and maybe go to law school The financial aid at w&l was better by about 7k per yr. I am indiffrent about the social scenes at each college and having a hard time deciding. Any input or suggestions would be appriciated.

Somewhat similar schools in some regards – reputation for more politically and socially conservative student populations, neither is in a great college town. Weather at W&L will certainly be better. Depending on where you are coming from, travel could be more challenging – ND is 90 minutes from Chicago, with coach buses to O’Hare and Midway whereas Lexington is, I think, a longer drive from DC area and not really convenient to airport travel. If you want to stay in the DC area or South after graduation, W&L has great reputation. If you are looking at east coast/west coast or Midwest, the extensive ND alumni network could make a difference.

Academically, ND Econ department has been undergoing significant changes over the past several years, so you might want to spend some time reading through the faculty bios and areas of interest. There had been a split between the theory and the more numbers-type of faculty (just my very vague recollection) within the department and the numbers-folks prevailed in shaping the future.

Both schools have Business schools, not sure how difficult it might be to take classes as a non-major within those schools.

Other considerations – W&L has vibrant frat/sorority scene, with high percentage participation from students. ND does not have that, but the Residence Halls serve as source of identification and family within the community. Of course, big sports at ND, with robust opportunities to compete at Residence Hall level (full-contact football teams within the dorms, etc.)

Can you back and visit each school before you decide? Good luck with your decision, both schools offer great opportunities.

Thanks for the input. And yea, ive visited both
