Notre dame with ok gpa

I am a white kid who wants to go to ND. I am currently a a Junior who goes to a public high school. I have a 34 ACT score, will probably have a 3.85-3.88 GPA(unweighted) 4.3(weighted) by end of the first Semester of senior year. I have decent ECs. My parents both work there if that helps at all. What I was concerned about is my First semester of junior year. I had a health problem and had 3 b’s. I heard that the junior year is the MOST important but I screwed up :frowning: I am trying to get All a’s this semester.
So my question is

  1. What would be my chance of going in to ND
  2. Do I still have a chance with 3.85-3.88 with GPA?
I have been discouraged and lost motivation after I got 3b’s… So could you guys give me some advices?

You could always explain your health issues, and how they influenced your grades, on your application. If you’re now healthy again, you still have two semesters to return to higher grades. Grades are not everything. ECs and passion are, too. Maybe most important is how you show you can benefit the ND family, and how you are unique. Address that in the “Why ND?” essay prompt. It also can’t hurt to personally meet your ND admissions counselor at a Notre Dame visit/event.

Just a few thoughts. Son is accepted there.

Thank you so much for your reply! @Exmark. Do you have any idea what kind of gpa and test score your son had?

3.7uw, 4.5w. Top 10%. 35 ACT. So about where you are. Don’t think a few points in tests or tenths of GPA matters a lot.

It will also help your mental health to find a “safety school” you could envision yourself attending, and applying there, too, early action, if it’s not binding. Knowing you’re “in” somewhere will make next March easier (unless you go REA for ND).

3 B’s will hardly diminish your chances of NW.

Also, BOTH you parents work there. That is literally a big boost in your app.
