Nov 1 Creative Supplement (Film Production) Dodge/Chapman

My daughter submitted all materials for Early Action (required for Dodge Film Prod) before Nov 1st, as well as materials for the separate Creative Supplement Application to the Film Production program. Despite the fact that teacher informed her that recommendation letter had been sent, it turns out it was only received by the main admissions office (on the Early Action app), but teacher never sent it separately to the Creative Supplement application.

The Chapman Dodge Film website states (regarding the Recommendation Letter), “This letter is due by the same deadline as your application materials, so give your recommender plenty of time to complete the letter.” My daughter requested the letter back in September and the teacher completed it in time…She tried to contact Dodge Film but got an auto-reply.

She is beside herself, as she spent weeks on the creative supplement, making a 2-minute video essay, etc.

Has anyone else had a son or daughter encounter this issue? If yes, how was it handled by Chapman/Dodge?

Chapman is a very small school and every time I have called admissions they answer the phone. I understand you are dealing with Dodge, but I would be very surprised if it really had to be sent to both admissions and Dodge, or even if so, it seems admissions would “send” it over. We had this kind of thing applying to an honors program at another school. Even though the honors college wanted the recs, they magically appeared on the site having come from the main college they were originally sent to. I would certainly call main admissions tomorrow, I really don’t think she will be have a problem. Was the teacher supposed to send it via common app link and mail to Dodge or upload? Seems like a lot to put on a teacher for the same overall school. I really think she is fine, the recommendation got to Chapman on time. So stressful though, I get that.

CADREAMIN,
Thanks so much for posting your reply–very good to know. She or I will call early tomorrow!

Good luck, they are super easy to work with and you will get a live person in undergraduate admissions without going through a long menu system!!! That is always refreshing. And congrats on your daughter for getting that all together on time, those creative portfolios are something!

Yes, she spent a ton of time on Creative Supplement. Called Dodge, and they were so helpful and explained not to worry and that it sometimes takes a bit longer for the rec letters and that her application will be fine as long as it is handled quickly (it all showed up today, Nov 2). They even took the time to email her at school so she would not be panicked. There was also a transcript issue (having to do with creating a Creative Supplement App BEFORE Common App was received) that had to be handled by the main admissions office (Dodge person connected me to a person in Admissions who took care of the problem). I am posting this as a conclusion in case any Early Action/Film Production future applicants encounter this or a similar issue.

Yippeee, now you can relax! Thanks for updating. Always great to get good customer service and helpful folks during a stressful time. You should get a log in ID soon where she can check on everything. Be sure to look at that and make sure everything is listed and checked off properly. But know it can be fixed if not, they are pretty chill and very friendly there considering they must deal with lots of panicked students and parents this time of year. Hope she has a nice Christmas package from them this year!
