LOL okay another version. My exp section was MATH.

ahhh who else took this one! Discussss!

I tok this!!!

For the SETI (20min passage)
What was like the "free- data" question?
a. outraged
b. dismissive
c. ambivalent
d. ?
e. defensive

I put B but i have no idea...

And the main idea? (last question) of the SETI passage

-describe an unusual event
-justify doing sth??

I cant relly remember the choices..

And the aliens and how we should trust them? (about question number 12 ish)

Oh and another passage about the Art work & the monkeys

What was the Professor implying about the young guy? (or sth like that)
Was it presumptuous?

Is this version of the test different from "Monsters and Socrates?" Both of them are called Version 2, even though I had the monster article but no article about SETIs, cowboys, or cereal and milk

yes its different, i suppose the titel shoudl be Version 3...

I had this one ..mathexperimental and that monkey-SETI passage
CR and Math were ok I guess ...no idea about writing=(

das 222 can u confirm some of my questionss? and anyone else who had this with math experimental?!

Babeexphat:

I put Outraged, because it said that some guy was trying to defend SETI from the **** it got from people, and it asked what were the peoples attitudes on data-free science. They were outraged. Not too sure though, one of the questions that took me a few minutes to decide on.

THe last question of SETI, me and a few other kids I know put ''Satirize a group of fringe people''. Fits in because the author did take a few stabs at the SETI. Also not sure, both of these questions were really difficult.

THe last one I'm sure I put ___ and resourceful, and I'm definite it's correct.

hmm for the first question, i didnt put outraged because it was asking about People in GENERAL and their attitude toward data-free science. Not the guy's attitude.

Caribou question:the first one was different from the 2nd passage, how?
- i put they put more detail about the landscape
... or was it it had more detaila bout caribou migration?

There are fewer answers for this version than I expected...

1.I put competent and resourceful.

"stab in the dark" question, I put "vast amount of work scientists should do"

3.about the reflected idea behind the story of a man climbing down the tree, I put "Thoughtful prudence"

What did you guys put??????/

Oh, and I put dismissive.

Same

SAME- why did u choose this one? i know many ppl chose impulsiveness of SETI work

i was gonna do thoughtful prudence buti think i did... unconditional trust

SAME... why did u put dismissive? i only did it cuz none of the others worked

do u know the caribou question i was talkinga bout

1.I put competent and resourceful.

"stab in the dark" question, I put "vast amount of work scientists should do"

3.about the reflected idea behind the story of a man climbing down the tree, I put "Thoughtful prudence"

What did you guys put??

Oh, and I put dismissive.

Congratulations, you answered all of them correctly! 1) It said that aliens would have ability to transmit signals, therefore they are competent (have the ability) and resourceful (to be able to make use of materials/their ability)

2) The only other one that could fit was something like "the hopelessness of doing this research"...however, the passage later said that they focus on specific areas where they are more likely to find life, therefore having a huge amount of work to do

3) Prudence = cautiousness. Throughtful prudence about transmitting our signals has to be undertaken to avoid being like the homonoid singing "hello kitty" to a sabertooth tiger.

4) Dismissive -- definitely not outraged. the connotation of the word "small" gets this one to be obvious, as small things are likely to be overlooked; therefore likely to be dismissed

damn i shoudlnt have changed #3.

what about the caribou question about how the first passage was different from the second...
is it taht the first passage had more detail baout the landscape
or that they talked more about the caribou migration?

and the main idea of the SETI? (last question for the 20 min passage)
-argue for an unpopular cause
-describe an unusual event
-justify doing sth??

& the art work and monkey passage:
What was the Professor implying about the young guy? (or sth like that)
Was it presumptuous?

-Yup I put landscape.

-describe unusual event (ahh what did you guys put for this??)

-presumptuous yes

-
2) The only other one that could fit was something like "the hopelessness of doing this research"...however, the passage later said that they focus on specific areas where they are more likely to find life, therefore having a huge amount of work to do

---Oh dear, I thought the question asked for "What does "stab in the dark" describe". And the sentence started with..the PROJECTS were stabs in the dark. or something. So it probably describes the PROJECT. and not the scientists. right? argh I don't know.

I remember presumptious and landscape too

sorry forgot most of the others..

for i think the main idea it was, i put describe an unusual event, but im VERY unsure about that. Also, i put "honest and helpful or soemthiing" but i think i got that wrong too DAMNIT. watd yu guys get for main idea?

also, for the writing improv. paragraphs, did any1 get a Q about what would improve the passage overall? i put adding examples of how the girl's attitude chanegd.

They discussed this same "stab in the dark" question back in June 2005.

Vadox, holy ****, so I pretty much misunderstood that whole passage, God damn.

I'm hoping the SETI passage was experimental, it was so confusing.
