I came incredibly close to attending Villanova last year but turned it down for the honors college at the University of Vermont, based mostly on a "gut feeling." While I understand that it has not been very long and many people will simply say I need more time to adjust, but the fact is I am not very happy here and I regret my decision not to become a wildcat. This spring I will apply for admisssion to the college of liberal arts and sciences for a second time.

So I have two questions:

Is nova very stingy on financial aid for transfer students?

How generous are they when it comes to transferring credits?

I understand that if I do not get in again none of this will matter, thus I am working very, very hard because I do NOT want to find myself stuck here next year and the years to come. Thank you everybody in advance.

Nova is not know for their financial aid. Was your original package almost acceptable? If yes, I would call admissions now and then financial aid and see if they would accept you for January with the same package. Strike while the iron is hot.

If UVermont is not for you-- look seriously into Penn State-- great school spirit aka “Happy Valley” for a good reason. But again to get on main campus you must apply now and transfer in January-- otherwise transfers are not accepted until Junior year.

Another school I’ve heard great things aboout with super Honors college and nice Merit $ is Delaware. Very pretty campus too.

my original package was pretty good actually about 15k a year in grants. i dont really think calling would work because it is the policy of the liberal arts college that you must be at a prevous instution for at least 2 consecutive semesters before applying as a transfer.

while i appreciate the advice on the other two colleges i am also certain that i need a bit smaller school with more of a community and intellectual feel. ugh i guess im just venting about not going to nova when i had the chance. hopefully a semester and a half of good grades and involvement will get me in again.

if you’re looking for an intellectual feel, sorry to disappoint you, but villanova’s probably not what you want. you’re probably mistaking villanova’s new jersey-centrism for intellectualism. there are alot of people at villanova that make it their goal to scrape by with a modicum of work, grade inflation and 50K tuition checks. but i don’t really think that’s a knock against villanova, intellectualism doesn’t really exist on college campuses outside of a few, sparse, exceptions. best of luck in all your endeavors.

bsage: I know you don’t want to hear “give it more time” but that is probably because you know this is good advice. What don’t you like about UVM. I love it up here.

If you are sure you want to transfer, I agree with the advice that you should call. The fact that you were already accepted should put you in different standing than other transfers. I would definately call and see what the admissions office says. You may not have to go through the process of reapplying - especially if enrollment is down.

I wish you the best of luck. Just remember that college is always an adjustment. I am sure you have heard that college is what you make of it. As cliche as that sounds, it is true. I know UVM has a reputation as a party/hippie/mj school but there are different types everywhere.

you sound like you just didn’t find the right crowd. def agree with rollz4 as a whole doesn’t really look much better. it REALLY depends on who you hang out with. i’ve met a mix of kids and i did not find the intellectual ones in places i thought i’d find them so it really all depends on you, your luck, and how you approach people. did you make sure you’re not going through more trouble to go to a similar but more expensive place?
