November 2010 SAT - International

<p>what was the folk tale passage about? can u remind me please</p>

<p>primarily about how folk tales capture the essence of the human experience and how they embody various noble qualities or something</p>

<p>what did you guys put for ‘catalog’? i rmb being 50-50 on that. anyone rmb the options?</p>

<p>in other news, how did writing go for you guys? anyone remember specific questions</p>

<p>Perphaps because CB is lazy!</p>

<p>Foreword: CB has a deliberate attempt to confuse us by setting completely different papers in this test date. It would be very traumatizing to discuss more than 6 different passages and SC questions in only one thread. What I suggest is that each thread should tackle one specific passage and we link these threads together. It’s easier to discuss in this way.</p>

<hr>

<p>Here’s sth I can remember about the wife’s aunts passage</p>

<p>1) Suspicion: my answer: always involves some negative expectation
2) Paradise: something like not enough to describe
3) something like statuesque, the other options are direct, frail, imposing…
4) something intense pleasure
5) the word “Light”: trivial?
6) Tone: self-mocking?
7) Sth about Laughter: ???
8) confrontational relationship
9) The transition: Generic to Specific?
10) I think should be one more qn here. can’t rmb</p>

<p>for the catalog question i think i chose variety or seomthing like that</p>

<p>can someone confirm these:
Fred suggested “looking”
if he had done it earlier, “sooner or earlier?” or NE?</p>

<p>1) agreed
2) agreed
3) forceful and direct. she wasnt statuesque at 5 foot 1. she wasnt “frail and ailing” either, someone could be short and old, but not “frail and ailing”.
4) what was the question and the options again? sounds familiar though
5) agreed
6) agreed
7) can’t remember question
8) i believe there was another option which was quite close. this was 50-50
9) agreed</p>

<p>Q7 is something that in the first line of the paragraph the aunts laugh…
I cannot remember the options at all. Totally confused in the first place.</p>

<p>^what were the options again?</p>

<p>UP…so few ppl</p>

<p>what does the passage suggest about the aunt’s laughter</p>

<p>its a living thing
its a tentative response</p>

<p>don’t remember the others (i picked its a living thing since it said her laughter ‘circled around them’)</p>

<p>^ amazing memory. i rmb that question now. my answer was tentative response</p>

<p>what i can remember from my answers</p>

<p>1) Suspicion: negative expectation
2) Paradise: i was between two answers, either ‘one word couldn’t describe the euphoria he felt when he returned home’ and ‘the experience was beyond any past experience or expectation’ - i picked the latter because he didn’t think it was ‘home’ till the very end of the passage, so it seemed illogical to pick the first one
3) what he meant from saying that he had expected someone really tired and crinkly - he had been expecting someone visibly aging (or something similar)
4) what does the bit about how the air was thick and fragrant show about the writer’s emotions - intense pleasure
5) the word “Light”: trivial - not sure about this one either, between trivial and gentle
6) Tone: self-mocking
7) laughter circled them - like a living thing
8) confrontational relationship between grand aunt and his wife
9) The transition of paragraph 1 to 2 - general to specific
10) the small grand aunt’s attitude - forceful and imposing</p>

<p>@riceandsnow
Your 3) means my 10), and your 10) means my 3)…
…Cannot edit already :(</p>

<p>2) actually, now that you’ve mentioned it. I sort of recall having the dilemma of choosing between those two options as well. and could possibly have selected the latter. the place wasnt exactly his home right? at least that’s how I perceived it.</p>

<p>OMG Cannot believe I didn’t take SAT NOV. I JUST DID THIS CR TEST IN JULY !!! COLLEGEBOARD IS FREAKING LAZY!!!<br>
My curve that test is way way too easy. I left 5 blanks and got 9 wrongs still have 650 CR. =.=</p>
