November 2010 SAT - International

Anybody remember the last SC in the section with 6 SCs? I think it is the section with the archetecture. I didn’t know a word in the sentence, but I remembered the choices were extroverted and maybe licentious? Sorry I can’t remember… or is this the same problem that you are talking about licentious vs. oppressive right?

I had a maths experimental and I had the cultural vacuum :frowning: I got that one wrong :(

oh I rmb the question with the cultural vacuum. and i don’t think that was the correct answer.

wasn’t the question about how the author of passage 1 views his ancestral land of japan? he spoke highly of their cultural values etc, so how could it be ‘cultural vacuum’?

a vacuum suggests emptiness or nothingness.
vacuous, vacant, vacuum, etc

one of the writing questions was like between " people that had never been" and “people who have never been” WHICH ONE WAS CORRECT? ALSO WAS WAS TEH ANSWER TO THE TRANSITION QUESTION IN THE LAST PART OF GRAMMAR , WAS IT “THUS,”???

its licentious :)

^chehk: other choices were fortuitous circumstance and deliberate action or something. i almost bubbled in fortuitous circumstance though

i think it is fortuitous circumstance because the winds move them and winds are a circumstance i guess :P

I agree that those two options were very possible. But I think Wenner agrees that they migrate during Winter not because of fortuitous (meaning lucky or by chance) circumstance, but more because their natural wild instincts, when exposed to THOSE circumstance, cause them to migrate.

In other words, the wind alone doesnt make them migrate, but their instinct in response TO the wind.

That was at least how I analyzed it

Did anyone put “thus” as the transition in the longer grammar section ??

@hopefulyoung
I did, but I am not that sure.

so…
1.light: gentle? or trivial? I think it shud be gentle… i was pretty sure…
2.Last question for one reading section: something about “humorous”? why is tht wrong?
3.catalog: variety of experience?
4.“All encompassing Skepticism”? what was this question asking? and what were other choices?
5.Was “fledgling” answer for any SC? (it was second blank)
6. Identifying sectence error: “…As well as…” is this correct? it seemed quite awkward in the sentence…
7. filled “through the referrals”? Is the preposition “through” correct?

I put trivial and I was sure but now I doubt myself. :)

Yes, it was variety of experience.

I don’t remember the other choices but I also put “all encompassing skepticism”

gah i remember debating between deliberate action and instinctive whatever and i forget which one i put :S

^ im pretty certain it’s trivial. that persona was trying to find ‘something’ (anything at all) to say. but he couldnt find anything to say.

anything at all means even the most trivial (or unimportant) thing

Trivial is correct.
After reviewing the 06 thread on monarch butterflies, I am actually sticking with my answer of deliberate action. Werner’s view was that migration is a result of intent. Butterflies could merely “instinctively” allow themselves to be pushed south. Meh I was very confident during the exam in this section but who knows

WAS THE READING SECTION WITH THE MOST SENTENCE COMPLETION QUESTIONS A DUMMY? i cant remember the passages that followed but the section had alot of sentence completion, like 8-9

In the last paragraph, Wenner specifically mentioned that monarch butterflies have no intent, which is a human trait. what they have is only instinct to move, not intent

Absolutely not. he was humbled to be among them and couldnt respond to their humor . ie couldnt think of a trivial thing to say, to contribute to the light atmosphere.

■■■ there goes 800 hahaha ah wells, overconfidence :(, i dismissed that one far too easily

^ intemister, yes

chehk: a -2 (or even a -3) could be 800. And i’m pretty sure no one here would score a 67 anyway. dont lose hope just yet thanks
