November 2014 Audition Acceptances?

Anyone else waiting to hear back about the early audition?

Yes, still waiting. Last year, notification was out 2 weeks after auditions. It has been 3 weeks as of today. Every trip to the mailbox is filled with anxiety! Gah!

Hopefully we’ll hear something soon! Still waiting here too.

I know the waiting is difficult. Good luck!

Acceptance comes in a small envelope too so don’t panic if its not a big envelope with “congrats” on it. Fingers crossed!

Thanks MTMajorCook. All is quiet on the Midwestern front… maybe Monday???

This is ridiculous! They have never taken longer that thanksgiving, let alone Christmas the way this is going!

just hung up…was told “we hope to have them in the mail this week so they have before the holidays.” she said my son’s was in a “big pile in front of her.” uh oh. that doesn’t sound good.

Wonder what the hold up was…?

S got a YES today! Woo hoo!

Way to go MTmom2015’s S!! Let me know if you have questions about the program. My S just finished first semester there and loves it.

I Auditioned for both MT and Acting, accepted to acting. Still very excited.

Congrats @Michigander97! S says freshman year for Acting and MT is nearly identical. They all take same acting class. Acting majors have shorter dance classes and one 1/2 hour less/week in voice lessons. Sophomore year there is a bit more of a difference, but acting will remain an emphasis for MT majors throughout the 4 years.

Just seeing this - congrats!!! D is a sophomore MT major & her boyfriend is Acting - they both love the program! Acting majors can add voice lessons to their schedules if it works. And you probably know this, but everyone can audition for all shows.

Hi Everyone! I failed to note that my S was also accepted last week for his choice of A or MT!!! He is ecstatic and wants to stop auditioning, but he will attend a few more. So Mom4bwayboy…please fill me in on all you know  S will choose MT. I recall Ms. Oleen said the theater kids live in the honors dorm and she herself insures they are on track with class scheduling. Have you seen this is the way? What tips do you have for a kid whose family will be a long, long way from campus? (10-hour drive)

@decisionishers - Yes, almost all of S’s classmates live on same floor of honors dorm and get along well with each other (so far). At this time, all but one Acting/MT major is planning to return after break (one Acting major is changing majors after finding it wasn’t really his passion, but is happy to stay at the school). Ms. Oleen is WONDERFUL, helping all the students keep their ducks in rows. I don’t know how she does it. S loves the program and the campus - which kind of surprised us, because it is not located near the heart of ANYthing - he says it feels very welcoming to all kinds of students, and he likes that about the school as a whole. Almost all their time is spent in the CAC building, but for those who want it, there are plenty of outside social opportunities. My S enjoys the fact that studios seem to always be available for practicing of dance/singing/acting/piano whenever he has the whim - even late at night (though I’m not sure I’m comfortable with him crossing campus at all hours). He has a bike (even though he said there was no reason to have one) and uses it to go everywhere, all the time. It doesn’t seem like anyone has had any issues with safety/ theft.

As for tips for a long distance family, I’m not sure. We live an hour away, but it seems that all needs are taken care of. There are several classmates whose families live in Dayton area, and others not far away. All have expressed willingness to help out any students who have any issues and are far from home. Everyone had a place to go fro Thanksgiving, for example. If your S is a dancer, or physical fitness buff, there’s plenty of opportunity to work on those skills/activities. If you S is like mine, and is ALWAYS hungry, I would recommend the “new” maximum meal plan. Previous plans were designed more for commuting students, but as resident population has increased, the amenities for those that stay on campus have gotten better. MTmom2017 may have some better advice for those who come from a long distance. I can PM you with more info, if you have specific questions. Welcome to the WSU clan.

@decisionishers - we live about 8 hours away - happy to answer any questions! Sent you a PM. I’m not on CC that often anymore, just check in periodically! Feel like the old-timer now that D is a sophomore. ;)

Mom4bwayboy: thanks so much for your insight! I love that your son is able to rehearse whenever he has the whim! That’s what they are there for! I will PM you.

I know the acceptance letter said that talent scholarships would be awarded at the end of March, has anyone heard anything?

@Michigander97‌ - S’s letter from last year was dated March 26. Not sure when it arrived.
