November Auditions

My D is auditioning at OCU on November 21. Just wondering if any other CCers will be there that day!

I’ll be there! :)

Please tell us all about it! D will be in your shoes this time next year.

D had her audition at OCU yesterday. She really enjoyed it. All the students were very welcoming! Seemed like they were well organized, but they did run behind so be prepared to wait.

She checked in and a student walked her around to show her where the audition rooms were and then walked her to a warm-up room. She got to choose which to do first so she went and did her monologues. She said the Acting faculty were GREAT! Really enjoyed working with them. She then went to her vocal audition. They let her choose what to sing for her first song, then asked her about other selections she had and they picked her classical song. After that she sat down with them for a short time. Main question was why do you want to go to OCU.

We saw Die Fledermaus the night before her audition and it was great! She actually referenced it during her interview which was nice to be able to do. I would definitely see the show before the audition if possible.

Good luck!

When will you hear something if you were at the November audition? Anyone know?

I think typically they will accept a very small number to make offers to in December but mostly wait until after they hear everyone else at the big auditions in February and March or so. I would think you will hear something in time for the big semi-official national acceptance deadline that most of the schools have accepted

At the info session before the audition, we were told they’d let us know within 30 days. I’m not sure if I heard correctly, I could be wrong, but I think that we should find out late this week or early next week.

While my son auditioned in February he was notified within 30 days. That has been a few years ago, but it sounds like they are keeping to the same time frame.

Has anyone else gotten their letter yet? Mine came today, but the office’s are closed until January 4th I think.

I would guess that the letters were all mailed at or near the same time, before they closed for the break. Was it good news?

I got my letter today, and I’m in California, so I figure most people will get them today. I got into the Bachelors of Arts in Music as a Soprano! Not exactly what I wanted, but I figure a degree from OCU is a degree from OCU and will still look good  Plus they gave me a scholarship with is always nice! And who knows? Maybe this will end of being the right decision for me. I’m still going to apply to other programs, but at least I know I have somewhere to go next year!

I’m in California too, I got into the Musical Theater program as a Soprano. So yeah, good news!

Congrats to both of you. It’s nice to have an early acceptance so you can enjoy the rest of the ride!

I also got a letter yesterday and was accepted as a Bachelor of Arts in Music- Mezzo. Can anyone tell me the advantages/disadvantages of this degree. I really wanted Musical Theatre. Is it better to accept this offer from my first choice school or look at some of the lesser known musical theatre programs in my home state. I am having mixed feelings!

I am a VP 2013 student who knows quite a few people who have chosen to accept this degree after not being accepted for the BM (either MT or VP).

While I hesitate to break down things in terms of ‘disadvantages’ versus ‘advantages’, here are a few things you need to know:

BA students take with a different set of faculty, all of whom are very talented!

BA students have approximately half the major requirements of BM students. BM students have LITTLE time for electives, so if you want to make sure you have a ‘back up plan’ (such as a second major, et cetera), this could very well be the choice for you. Many BFA Acting or BA Theatre Performance students choose to add on the BA. (The breakdown of requirements can be viewed for comparison at [Oklahoma City University : Bass School of Music : Degree Programs BA Music](http://www.okcu.edu/music/BM_music.aspx) and [Oklahoma City University : Bass School of Music : Degree Programs BM MT](http://www.okcu.edu/music/BM_theater.aspx))

You do have the option of re-auditioning for the MT or VP program at the end of your first semester. I have a friend who did so in November.

If anyone has ANY questions about the differences in program, feel free to PM me. I will gladly give my email for any other ‘personal’ questions, whether about the BA program, the BM program(s), or OCU in general.

:) Happy holidays!
