Can anyone recommend any free or low-cost summer programs that actually look at your previous community service involvement, grades, and leadership positions? I do not wish to attend a math or science camp. I realize the list is broad but can you please suggest the better ones? Not the knockoffs like National Student Leadership Conference.

Might be better to express your interests. If you have an interest in the outdoors and physical labor the Student Conservation Association is of longer duration than Landmark Volunteers and doesn't cost much. There are volunteer opportunities in most national parks in SCA. My son particapated in a Redwood forest in Ca which was nice as he saw the West coast close up and close to nature. The down side was there were only 2 kids in his group of 8 physically fit enough to do the work without complaining. I don't know why some parents sign their teens up for things the teen has no interest in just because it is free or low cost or feel their child 'should' have experience in that area. One of the girls in the group cried and one went home early. But for my physically fit son it was a great opportunity he enjoyed. They did live in a camping area. Son brought home many photos of the bridges and drain control areas they built which were brought to good use the next rainy season. He made friends who were participating from abroad and his summer service served as his senior volunteer project.
