Centh, are those kids happy at VT? Thanks for pointing out about the other factors of airport etc. Yes those are big issues.

I read somewhere that at Gtech it takes 5 years to graduate or even 6! I would not have known. GT was so high on our list but now am not so sure.

This whole game is a lot harder than I ever imagined. Its like buying a house or even worse!

All of the kids I know who are going there are happy. I know some who are ROTC who dropped out of the ROTC program because it’s very intense, but they still love the school. The ROTC program there is like Texas A&M, it’s a very structured program with common dorms, etc. BTW, of the schools we looked at, the housing costs were highest at VT.

One brother and his wife both went to VT. They have extremely loyal alumni. DS just finished his freshman year at a LAC but has many friends who go there (his class plus one or two ahead of his–we are in Central VA), and he has remarked that every single one is very happy at VT. Now that I think about it, I know of lots of kids who are transferring/not going back/. . . to lots of places next year, but all the kids we know at VT are returning. Always a good sign. . .

Oh, thats great to hear! Kids going back means the faculty must be good. Ingerp, which LAC is your child at?

Will go and read some posts on VT boards and see what kind of questions are posted there. I guess the weather in Va is good, how cold does it get in winter?

Travel shouldn’t be that bad. I’m sure he could get a ride to Washington DC, about 4 hours away with someone going home that way, then hope on a plane. It doesn’t often snow much in December, more likely to be January or February.

yeah, I got back late Wednesday night
orientation at Clemson was really fun, I met a lot of people and had a great time (and got my class schedule for the fall)
