Your admission to ABC Academy is well-deserved. You are bright, talented, and hard-working. Congratulations.

But, please, I beseech thee--take the time to thank those who helped you along the way. While you put a lot of time and effort into this process, you didn't achieve this goal on your own. Whether it's a hug, a phone call, an e-mail or a snailmail letter (my personal favorite), the following people deserve a few words of gratitude:

1) Your parents, or whoever raised you to be the smart, responsible young person you are.

2) Your teachers, guidance counselor/secondary school advisor, coaches, etc., who not only wrote enthusiastically on your behalf, but also have given you the skills to succeed at ABC Academy next year.

3) Your interviewer, who wrote a positive report about your conversation, and served as your advocate on the admission committee. And believe me, we all have to fight for our favorites.

4) The dean/director of admission at ABC Academy, who thoughtfully considered your application and made the final decision to put you in the "yes!" pile, while so many others were not so fortunate.

Great reminder, GemmaV! I thought that I'd just tell my teachers/councilor thank you to their faces, but a card along with that definitely is in order... ;]

Lol I thanked everyone I could think of, todays been a great day. Thanks to you also Gemma. Ya I just realized that my interviewer had to have fought hard for me to get in being a full FA applicant. And ya..the teachers and stuff.

GemmaV's post is an important one! My daughter, justbeingme, needs to read this one, again!

I do not believe that I fully understood the role of the Admissions Officer in this process. It seems that they act as your first school advisors (without you there). I need to write some thank you notes, ASAP!

I went nuts with the Thank Yous today plus I’ve never been told “congratulations” so often. I’ll definitely send my interviewer a thank you note, I was considering it but wasn’t sure if it was weird or not. So I just write a letter and say thank you? For advocating for me? For accepting me?

Son (burrito boy?) is writing thank you notes to everyone, even where he was not admitted, though I won’t let him use the “Bunny Suicides” for those The hardest thing for him will be saying “No thank you” to the wonderful schools that he will not attend but I feel strongly that he should be the one to write those.

I will write the notes to the FA people. I am completely overwhelmed by their generosity. Hopefully, those funds at schools that he declines can be used to help other deserving students and not get sucked into some kind of FA-overspending-for-yield-purposes vortex.

Thanks Gemma! I never did use up my quota of questions via PM, can they carry over to next year? ;)
