^^ Yes UCkitty, the campus was gorgeous! I learned that public transportation is free if you want to go into downtown SC, just show them you school ID. Also there is a bike repair shop on campus that is also free :)

I was a little disappointed in the Dining Commons at College 9/10. I guess I was just comparing it to UCLA’s DeNev, which is top of the line; then again what is’nt nice at UCLA?

Yeah, us transfer students were SORELY outnumbered by teeny boppers still in high school. But me and my dad sat behind another dad and his son, and that son was definitely older than 22. I was also able to really connect with our tour guide and ask important questions that I had, not be intimidated by the ‘college senior tour guide’ But it’s true hanging out with the parentals among thousands of your peers that basically don’t have to answer to anyone can be uncomfortable.

No nothing really about my TAG that I didnt already know…Just that they want to hear you ‘brag’ about yourself in the actual app and personal statements…oy vey…one prompt in revision and one prompt yet to have started for me :(

I just attended a personal statement workshop at my CC and I was told to brag as well, but not in the sense that I’m making my personal statement seem like a resume. They’d rather have you list one thing that you’re really proud of as opposed to say, volunteering at 20 different places for 2 hours each. It has to have meaning behind it, I guess.

Also, make sure to focus on you specifically. They want to know about you, not your family, your mother, or whoever.

@anythinggoes1: How’s the area around UCSC?

The admissions director basically told us that they want to be reassured in your PS that you will be successful at their university.

@stressy The campus itself is gorgeous and the neighborhood closest to the college is on the upscale side. But downtown is a lot like Berkeley (shattuck and telegraph) but on a smaller scale. Restaurants, skate shops, etc., homeless people. But totally a beach city with a good feel and lots of character. Something about the ocean for me makes it really desirable.

my main is UCI & UCD already followed by UCSD, leaving my fourth only interested in UCSB,UCLA (overrated imo) & UCSC, not UCB because i don’t have IGETC.

looks at location, I’m applying to CSU’s too, including east bay, ha. i desire the bay over everything, but won’t be seeing UCB, blarghhh.

i feel the same about UCB, overrated but nonetheless good academics. I’ve had a lot of teachers from high school come from UCB and all i thought to myself was…“really…YOU were able to get in and graduate?” haha

My friend was in a frat and his house was on the beach in Irvine and it was breathtaking…the community, everything. never saw the school tho. Thing is if your chances of getting into UCSD are pretty good, your chances of getting into SC are VERY VERY GOOD. So if you apply you’ll probably get in.

Yeah I live extremely close to CSUEB, like up the street. Applying there as a back up for sure if things don’t work out with a UC.

You dont have IGETC but have taken speech, right? I have igetc and have taken speech…ugh

You can apply for the fee waiver directly in the UC application. Before you submit it, they will ask for your family income and the number of people in your household and they will decide right on the spot if you qualify.
