NP or Withdraw?

Dear CC,

I was wondering if anyone knew which one would be the better of the bad. I'm currently enrolled in a PREP physics class at my cc but I feel that there is a higher chance I will not be passing it. I'm taking it as P/NP and my major is Computer Science. I have already submitted my apps for UC/CSU and I was worried that a W might look back for the Fall quarter. Thank you for your responses!

NP is probably worse. Go with W. It’s not a major prereq, is it?

the class is a prep for a prereq . the major prereq is physics 4A and this class is Phys49 which is just a requirement to take phys4a

On another post, you said you dropped calc 1 this quarter. Honestly, I don’t think CS is the right major for you. My guess is that you have to make a drop decision today. Definitely take the W.

If you get lucky and get a P, how will you handle the Calculus 1 and Physics? And there are more classes afterwards that are even more difficult. Calculus is easy compared to what you’ll see later on. It’s going to be an epic struggle to graduate. It’s no good if you get to your junior year and drop out of school with no degree and a few programming courses.

I would probably think about changing majors while you still can and go for a MIS type program at a CSU that doesn’t have all of the CS math and science requirements. That’s one way to stay in computers without the heavy math.
