NROTC Application

Hello,

I was planning on applying for an NROTC scholarship next year. However, I am unable to access the Navy's ROTC website, and I don't know what the application requirements are. Has anyone applied for an NROTC scholarship and knows what to do?

Bump…(I’m not sure if this is the right thread to ask this in)

Are you in college, or in high school? The process is different depending, but I’m going to assume you are in high school. I applied 7 years ago so the process might be quite different, but I did get the scholarship although I didn’t take it.

You really need to try from another computer, because the application is all online now. Here is the information page:

You have to release your scores from College Board or the ACT company directly to the NROTC program. There are minimums that you have to meet. Scores will not be accepted after December 31, so you need to hurry. The code is 0656.

Apply to colleges. They recommend that you apply to at least 3 NROTC-affiliated colleges/universities (you can apply to schools with home units or with crosstown affiliations). You won’t be reviewed unless you apply to at least 3; I think you can specify up to 5.

Schedule an appointment for application processing. You have to do this before or on January 20. You also have to release your official school transcripts and references to the processing station and be sure they are received before January 20. I don’t know how you would find out where that station is, because my high school had Navy JROTC and our commander handled this.

Then the selection board makes its selections. If you are approved, you need to take a physical.

Here’s a PDF you may be able to access:

There are three tiers of majors for the NROTC scholarship. You have a better chance of acceptance if you pick one in the first two tiers (first tier is best). However, once you enroll - if you get approved for a tier 1 major, you can only change your major to another tier 1 major. If you get approved for a tier 2 major, you can change your major to either a tier 1 or tier 2 major, but not any other. 85% of NROTC scholarships are awarded to students who choose a tier 1 or tier 2 major.

I’m a Junior in High School. I was told that, in order to recieve the scholarship, I had to apply in the middle of my Junior year. I’m not sure if this is true or not, but I’m trying to find out.

Yeah, I’ll try a different computer. Your links don’t work for me either.

Is that December 31 Junior year or Senior year? If it’s Junior year I really have to get moving.

I was actually thinking about doing Early Decision to Cornell (next year) but I can only apply ED to one school. Is this okay, or do I still have to specify 2 other schools to which I’m applying?

My school doesn’t have JNROTC, so I’m not really sure who to go to.

Thank you very much for your help! I really appreciate it.

The Dec. 31 deadline is for seniors. My son started his app. at the end of his jr. yr.

On the NROTC app., you are asked to list/apply to five schools that have NROTC programs.
Unless it has changed (my son applied 6 years ago), at least one of your top three choices has to be a public university. Not sure that you could do an ED app. when applying for NROTC. You would need to get in touch with a NROTC recruiter and ask some questions.
