I've heard the NROTC unit at GW is one of the strongest units and very popular...can anyone comment on the accpetance rate, what the unit is like and how the NROTC people fit in on campus?

Nice to see another NROTC kid here. I got a 4-year to Tulane University i'm hoping to get transferred to GW. I sent out my request yesterday so i'm hoping to hear in a week or two. What do you mean about acceptance rate - the competitiveness of earning a scholarship or transferring to the unit? I've heard good things about GW, and from the looks of their site it seems like the midshipmen keep pretty busy.

I thought that there were a limited number of scholarships per unit and there are many requests for GW - thus it is competitive and not everyone gets in. I'm also curious to know the stats of people who get a 4 year and although I understand it is not 100% full ride it comes close - is that true?

Sorry, I can't tell you about the number of requests for GW, hopefully not too many. You're right in that there is a certain number of scholarships allowed per unit to prevent an uneven distribution of Midshipmen. The scholarship covers tuition, fees, books, and gives you a stipend. You will still have to pay room and board, although some schools give you a grant if you're on scholarship (Tulane, VMI, etc.) GW doesn't. I was awarded a 4 year Marine Option, if you search my posts you can find my academic and EC stats under the Official Acceptance Thread for GW. I also got a 219 on my PFT (suprisingly low to be selected for a Marine Corps scholarship) but my essays were some of my best work and I got a good recommendation from the MSgt. who interviewed me. I'm sure the NROTC Coordinator for your area can answers your questions better ( find them here - https://www.nrotc.navy.mil/NRD_locator.cfm ) I was extremely fortunate as I waited up until the deadline to finish my application, I'd recommend others to get started early (August or so). Anyway, good luck, if you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Thanks Rage - I'm actually a mom of a potential ROTC kid...maybe we'll see you at GW in 2007!
