Uw Nrotc

Hey, while my first choice is the US Naval Academy, UW is my favorite back-up. I got into to UW last week!!

I've been awarded the 4 year Navy ROTC scholarship, and if denied by USNA, I will use it for UW. Anyone else out there going ROTC (any branch) for UW?

Hey, congrats DMeix!

Ahh... NROTC. Well, I've had a bittersweet experience w/ receiving an NROTC scholarship. I got one for Boston College, so yeah my #1 school for free (it would have been free room and board too because of financial aid), but I couldn't get myself to accept. My mom doesn't want me to be in the military, and I really want to go to graduate school after college, so I ended up deciding that ROTC is just not for me. sigh I knew I would regret my decision either way, but hopefully I made the right one.

Congrats again on receiving the ROTC scholarship. It really is an awesome opportunity for some people. Also, good luck w/ the Naval Academy. You've got great opportunities at the Academy too, so you really can't go wrong. :-)

Thanks rovee!

I don't know if you are aware of this, but many graduates, both from ROTC and USNA go onto graduate school after they get a BS. A buddy of mine at USNA is currently doing graduate work at Georgetown. He finished up his BS degree work and instead of taking class at the Yard, he and a few other Mids commute to Georgetown for class everyday.

Anyway, my point is you could have gone NROTC, and then onto grad school (and had the Navy pay for the majority of that as well!), and had a kick @$$ job waiting for you when you graduated.

But hey, I respect your decision. I have several friends who were in a situation similar to yours.

Yeah, I've looked into the whole grad school thing, and from what I've read, there are a lot of rules and regulations. For example, you have to complete grad school in 2 years, (I want a JD), and they only allow like a very small amount of ROTC graduates permission to even apply to grad school. (I read on Northwestern's site that they only let 20'ish NROTC graduates from across the nation apply to medical school). I just don't like the idea that I won't have control of my future, which is mostly why I didn't accept. However, I didn't actually call and ask someone specifically, which is my fault, but I'm getting more comfortable with my decision.

Thank you for your respecting my decision, and I wish you the best of luck!
