So I'm thinking about joining the Navy as an engineer right after college and a recruiter told me to look into NROTC scholarship program which, if I qualify, will award me a generous sum of money to one of the 5 colleges of my choice. But my question is, does the navy award the scholarship to all 5 colleges, or just one? Also if the Navy only gives the scholarship to one college, can I transfer that scholarship if I choose to go a different college than the one that was chosen? Also can i choose to the schools in the same state?

Hi
try this website, it should answer most of your questions

The number of scholarships you are offered can vary depending on many factors. It is probably best to read the information on this website and then contact the persons listed who can best answer your questions.

Good Luck

With the NROTC scholarship, the five schools you put down on the application are not binding. You CAN switch schools, and transfer the scholarship after you have been awarded it to one school. The thing is, however, that in order to switch there must be openings at the school you are switching to, and you have to pick up the scholarship at the new school. This is VERY risky. Personally, I switched my scholarship a few times between schools and it worked out fine, but there are multiple people (probably close to 10) in my unit who are on college program attempting to pick up a scholarship because in the process of trying to switch their scholarship was lost. So it is possible, but be careful and try to do it really early.

And yes, they can be in the same state. It doesnt matter where the scholarship is to as long as they do have an NROTC program (or are affiliated with a school that does) and you get accepted to that school.

According to the scholarship packet that NROTC sends those people that are awarded a scholarship…your information is incorrect. You can apply to transfer your scholarship to another school but you do NOT lose the spot you currently have unless you are accepted into the NROTC unit at the new school. Perhaps that is ONE of the reasons why you never had trouble moving your scholarship between schools? I suspect that the 10 people you are referring to decided to go to your school regardless of whether there were any more scholarship openings in your unit and figured they would just wait/hope for an opening. Great plan if A. You can afford it, and B. you are bound and determined to go to a certain school regardless of whether you can use your NROTC scholarship THERE or not.

i got waitlisted at the school my scholarship was awarded to and i asked to switch my scholarship to another school. if i got accepted to my original school, would i be able to transfer my scholarship back to the original school as well?
