Nrotc

I am an incoming freshman in Navy ROTC. The information published by UM's NROTC website says that room and board is not part of the Michigan NROTC scholarship. However, I have seen other Navy ROTC websites that publish lists of schools that supplement the NROTC scholarship with a room and board scholarship. Under Umich, it says that they offer room and board scholarships on a case-by-case basis to Engineering majors. Does anyone who is in NROTC or who knows someone who is know anything about this?

bump? (10 char)

i think that means that it depends on your financial situation. So if you cant afford the roam and board theyll pay for it I THINK. i recommend calling the NROTC and talking to them if you cant afford the roam and board.

I was Air Force ROTC this last year but decided to drop to go Guard and pick up a pilot slot that way. You will have to pay for room and board. Some colleges will pick up the tab for cadets/midshipmen that have received scholarships, but Michigan is not one. I know Michigan Tech does though. Expect ROTC to cover about $12,000 of your $22,000 education, unless you didn’t get a “full-ride”.

Btw, no point in calling the CoE or Fin Aid department, because they won’t budge. Tried many times last year to get my room and board covered and it was a no-go. Good luck, though!

If it specifically mentions something about engineering majors there could be some kind of endowment set aside for NROTC engineering students. You may want to call and ask about that. My daughter in in NROTC at RPI and they do cover room and board because of a special fund that was set up specifically for this (or so I was told 3rd hand). Also just in case you are interested there is a list of schools and which ones cover room and board for NROTC students now posted over at serviceacademyforums.com :)

Thanks all for your input. Kgrmom, the list on serviceacademyforums.com is where I first saw this and then I searched the internet and realized that it came from the NROTC Guide. I am just trying to find out if I will be eligible since I will be an engineering major at Umich.
