i would reach out to alums on the facebook group and ask them that question!
Ugh!!! Submitted my application today (before the deadline of course) but after going back to look at my application and a re-reading my second essay, I found a small typo!!! It’s killing me to know that I can’t do anything about it I hope it doesn’t affect my acceptance. Have any of you experienced something similar??
Hi, I’m a junior and I applied for the 2019-2020 Arabic academic year (with Russian as my second choice.) I submitted my application a few weeks ago but the wait until December is going to feel like forever!
@College4juju Hello! I’m a summer Korean alum, I did not study abroad before NSLI-Y but there was about two participants in my program that have studied abroad in Japan and Germany before!
All I have to tell you guys is that it is extremely difficult to get AC because many summer participants apply for AC programs to continue improving in the language.
The same exact thing happened to me @xxNYTNxx
@braydensellers, ok, I will try making one, hopefully moderators will allow it as a separate thread.
@braydensellers, what is your 2nd choice?
DS is a sophomore and hopes to get the summer program. He made semi-finalist last year.
He speaks Russian at an intermediate level and can read and write at a low intermediate level.
@yearstogo, my daughter sounds very similar, except she is a junior (she skipped a grade, so she is still 15). Is your son a heritage speaker?
My daughter hopes for either summer or year program, anyone else?
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
He didn’t, and merged them together. You can learn from each other regardless of the language program.
His mom speaks Russian and we lived in one of the Republics until he was 5. Russian was actually his first language but now it is good but nowhere near the level of a 15-16 year old kid living in a Russian speaking country.
Six weeks being immersed would be great for him, especially if it is in the Baltics or Russia. We went to Moscow/St Pete for a few days about 4 years ago and he really enjoyed it.
@typiCAmom Korean summer. Throughout the whole application process I debated on making that my first choice. I think I’ll be happy either way though.
@librarymouse Sorry for the late response! Quizlet is a pretty good online resource for Tajik. Everybody in my group and many people years before have different Tajik flashcards on there. I wouldn’t recommend buying anything from amazon because some of us did this and when we got to Tajikistan we were told all our books were pretty inaccurate and useless for learning Tajik.
Does anyone know when first round decisions will be released?
apparently dec 1, but the next business day is monday dec 3. good luck!
They say early December so there’s not really an exact date.
good luck to everyone who applied, I hope we all get into semis!
Do you guys think notifs are coming out tomorrow or Monday? also good luck to everyone!
