NSLI-Y Program.

nope…I am still waiting

Still waiting too… I’m so nervous!!!

Nothin’ here

Nothing here.

Nada…crosses fingers hopefully we find out this week!

Nothing yet…Bet on getting it around April 15, hoping 20th at latest. I’m keeping myself busy with schoolwork.

Just hopeful I would hear something this week!

Hi students, I have a question - just found these posts which are very helpful! I have two students, we are awaiting the notifications but here’s the crazy part and was wondering what you thought - we live in VA and one student is applying for Cairo and the other for China; went to the in-person interviews in DC and everyone else there including my Cairo student was asked to speak to the parent as well, then my China student (my new step-daughter) had her interview but was not requested to have a chat with her parent - is this a bad sign? It was not a happy moment : (
Anyways, good luck to all!!! Thank you for the informative threads.

goalpost, My interviewer did not speak to my parents, and I’ve heard the same for some other applicants as well.

I’m waiting to hear as well. I have also been accepted into another summer program however I have not commited to it since I want to go to nsli more. This other program has already given me a 2 week extension (ending April 15) is there any way I could find out when I will be notified? Is there a contact person for this sort of problem?

^ You can certainly try to get advance info, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. Those of us who are seniors in high school and have to commit to a college by May 1 are really in a jam because of the timing. I emailed the program about the difficulties presented by the late notification, but was told “sorry ms. jdhjdh, there’s nothing we can do.” So do let us all know what you decide to do and how it turns out. Here’s hoping that you can crack that open for many of us who need to know sooner versus later!!

I also didn’t have my parents with me. I’m sure its fine that they didn’t ask to meet her parents because it wasn’t required to have parents at the interview.

Goalpost: it’s not necessarily a bad sign, as the request varies by interviewer. I think that the interviewer was probably satisfied with her answers and so they did not ask for your opinion. Depending on what type of questions the interviewer asked you about your child who is applying for Cairo, it probably is a good sign. If not, then a whole lot of us (including the people in this thread and all the interviewees around the area I live) are doomed.

Seniors: hope you guys get informed first.

Also, I sent in the medical forms so they were postdated on time - I was in such a hurry to meet the deadline that I didn’t put in the immunizations - I only wrote across both apps ‘up-to-date’ figuring they could ask me later for them if we were picked. Then that Monday they put on their website that if you didn’t get them postdated by the 12th it would be okay (I’m paraphrasing) was wondering if anyone who didn’t send in a medical has been notified or they are just going to let you know if you are a finalist that your paperwork is lacking. Sorry for the long post.

goalpost: I think that if you are selected as a finalist they will tell you what forms you are missing. That’s what it said on their update on their website.

Yeah don’t fret, to be honest it appears that the medical forms have no weight… like even if you’re missing it they’ll just tell you and give you a chance to complete it

Okay, we’re all going a little crazy with the waiting, so let’s do something to pass the time. Why don’t we all guess the date and time that the first notice will go out? We can do it like The Price is Right, where you have to be the closest, WITHOUT going over. The winner gets… well, nothing but glory, actually.

I’ll start. My guess is Tuesday, April 13th, at 2:30 pm. Anyone else want to give it a shot?

I’m going to go with Monday, April 12th, at…11:30 am.

Was it April 17th last year? That was a Friday. So I’m guessing Friday, April 16th. One week from this Friday.

So what is the point in completing the forms before the deadline? I thought they would be used as a part of the screening process…you wouldn’t necessarily want someone with medical issues overseas in a remote location. Thoughts?
