NSLI-Y Program.

@Hairydogeat I’m at a loss figuring out the meaning/reason behind your name. Passports should be handled by yourself. If you tell the passort people that you want to go to another country very soon, they should be able to help you get it through the system faster.

Thanks and as for the name, I am not quite sure either

Wait so if I haven’t gotten an email yet for Hindi/Arabic/Chinese that means I didn’t get it? Does that only apply for the summer program or for the year abroad program (which I’m applying for) as well?

I am not sure but I got the acceptance letter for the summer program last Friday

@TriSapien It is a possibility, but don’t lose hope yet, as I think they’re only notifying summer programs right now (correct me if my research was wrong) and none of the alternates have been notified yet.

Can someone verify if arabic emails been sent?

no arabic yet, we are waiting too - for the summer program but summer nor year or anything else for arabic have been notified as of yet

Hey does anyone know if the Korean program has been notified yet? The wait is killing me… it’s my first choice and now kinda my last, both my backup ones have been already notified I think.

Korean hasn’t been notified yet.

@Leigh - I didn’t have a passport so I applied for an expedited one at my regional passport agency last Monday (and with some complications) it arrived today

VENTING! LOOK AWAY IF YOU’VE ALREADY BEEN ACCEPTED!! :)

Is it just me, or is this starting to get a little old? I mean, I applied to a dozen colleges, all of which had 15,000 or more applications for 1000 spots on average. Deadlines for applications were early to mid-January. All of these colleges notified seniors as early as the middle of March, and ALL colleges have notified accepted students as of April 15th. Is there any reason that I’m missing why these folks shouldn’t be expected to process a tenth of the number of applications in (at this point) what may end up being almost twice the time?

Okay, okay, I know I need to exercise patience, and I really do want this experience. But seriously…

By the way, I’m not the only one who is starting to lose a little of the happy anticipation and is starting to feel frustration. Over on the Exchanges Connect and Cultures Shocked sites, people are beginning to complain about the wait as well, as many will end up having to turn down either NSLI or other scholarships and take a crap shoot at college acceptances because this is taking so long. I was feeling a little guilty about my post here until I started seeing similar posts elsewhere.

My first choice was Arabic and I still haven’t heard back either. If that helps anyone! I’m still keeping my fingers crossed. I’m frustrated that they expect us to submit by a certain date, yet we don’t get a definitive answer as to when we are finding out. Go luck all that are left!!:)

Someone just posted on EC that they were accepted for Korean. I assume summer, but it was not specifically stated.

ok so that means that Russian has found out, Chinese has found out, Hindi has found out, Korean has found out?.. That means Arabic, Turkish, and Persian are still left:/ of coarse I’m still in the waiting group

What exactly is EC?

I just got notified that I’m a korean alternate. Now I have to wait until May 17th to know if I’m going. Ugh I really hate all this waiting around :(

Are these all just notifications for the summer programs still? Has anyone heard for gap year programs?

Also Jdh and all the other seniors on here, can’t you decide on a college and then defer once you’ve made a deposit? That’s what I will do (if I get accepted…).

Goodness gracious! Look at all this complaining! I can’t believe this!
Come on people!! all this hating and negativity! Please, we’re talking about full scholarships here.

Come on jdhjdh! If you go overseas, there’s going to be a lot of things you don’t understand/don’t like. But you won’t be in much of a position to complain! We should be representing our culture/country in the best light.
Ok, schedules and dates have been extended, but that’s life. But I guarantee you that they aren’t sitting around doing nothing either.

This is getting absurd. For those of us with plans B, C, D, E, F…etc. we need time to execute those plans so we’re not stuck doing nothing for the summer. If by some miracle I get accepted, I’ll probably have to turn it down at this rate, purely because I was put into the position that I had to accept something else or be put into the position where I might not have anything to do all summer. There’s always next year though…
