By now a number of students have completed NSO. How did you find the experience?
How did you make out with the courses you identified with your advisor? (I realize the final actual schedule will not come out until early next month). How did you feel getting your UD ID in your hands? Any suggestions for students who have not yet attended? Are you getting "psyched" to move in the end of next month? Any comments about the NSO process?

I completed NSO last summer, so my experience is probably a bit different than this year’s people.

My then scheduler actually ended up becoming my adviser. I really lucked out that they were a professor in my college and ended up getting the right classes. They say that your schedule isn’t finalized, but I know for a lot of us now sophomores they didn’t change from the time that we scheduled.

Truthfully I was nervous about doing something wrong when I went to get my ID, and I made the bloody awful mistake of wearing the school’s colors, blue and yellow. I have an awful ID, but hey, it makes for a great story.

Truthfully, I’m okay with having a bit more time to myself before classes start. I’m excited to be rooming with my friends, but at the same time the summer break has been spoiling me.

And lastly, the NSO process isn’t bad. I know that some of the leaders put a lot of work into what they do and try to make you feel welcomed. I had a great leader last year. However, I know that there are some that don’t do a great job. There’s only so much you can do with your leader/understand what they’re trying to tell you.

It’s a crazy process.

I see that you are very involved in the Udel discussions and I’m wondering if you are a parent or student. I also would like to have a private chat with you regarding some issues with the school. Not sure how to get intouch with you directly, maybe you need to initiate, Thank you

I was surprised/concerned to learn that my daughter who attended one of the earlier NSO sessions was told by her advisor that it was unlikley that she would be able to take either of her required freshman English or Math class Fall semester because all sections were “full”. Given that there are many NSO sessions still to come, that seemed odd to me. When she saw her schedule on-line a few days after her NSO session, sure enough she was not scheduled for either Math or English and instead placed in 2 electives that she had to list as options. Is this an indication of things to come schedule-wise? Does anyone think it is problematic to take both English and Math Spring semester? Should she contact her advisor to try to get into one of these classes Fall semester? Appreciate anyone’s insights! Other than that NSO was productive and informative. I was impressed with all the info relayed during the parent sessions.

Penmom2:
Our D took both her english and math courses in her second semester and had no problems. Actually it turned out better because she was able to select her sections/professors rather than just being placed by UD. You can get student evaluations of most all the professors at UD on Ratemyprofessors.com. While the student evals are of course subjective our D found the student assessments to be pretty accurate for most professors. Good luck to your D.

Thanks Mwallenmd, good to hear that this can work out for the best! One less worry.
