Does Northwestern care about your senior year first semester gpa? If they do, what gpa should people maintain?

You’re supposed to send a Midyear report if you’re applying RD and senior year grades for the first term would factor in most heavily after your junior year grades. If you did ED, then you should strive to keep a good enough GPA not to make adcoms second guess their offer of admission (which is usually around the C range).

thanks, I knew I had to send a mid yr report but I wasn’t sure if it mattered that much. I guess I have to study for finals now…

I think it can matter quite a lot…

@WCASparent - I see you on this board quite often and you seem to know a lot… so I was wondering how important mid year and final reports are for ED students? I mean, how often do they take back admission? they wouldnt ever do it for, say, a 3.0, right? because that could potentially ruin someone’s life as they have no other college to go to.

It is in only the most extraordinary cases that they rescind an offer of admissions. A 3.0 is a B average, and I find it hard to believe that would kill a person anywhere, unless there was something unusually bad about the lowest grade making up that average.

Truthfully, I think most people get too worked up over this issue. DO NOT just blow off the rest of your senior year - take it a little easy, but don’t vacate the premises - and you should be fine.
