NU Audition Weekend

Did anyone go to NU's audition weekend? If so, what was your overall impression? How was the event organized?

I auditioned at NU this weekend, and felt pretty good about it. I am always super-critical of myself, but I think I sang fairly well. This was my first college voice audition (4 more to go!) and I was surprised with how fast it went. I chose the first song, they chose my second song and asked me what it was about Northwestern that I liked, asked for my questions, etc. The girl who auditioned before me also sang 2 songs and answered a brief question. I was surprised that I was not tested on theory/ear-training.

Overall, I was not as nervous as I imagined, and the quick audition was not overly-intimidating. I thought it ran smoothly, with practice rooms available prior to the audition. It was an efficient audition, and I can only hope that the others will be like this one! Now, it's all about waiting until APRIL....

Did you meet with any of the music students? How did you like the campus?

How are the masterclasses?

I had visited the Northwestern campus twice prior to my audition. I simply had a campus tour the first time, and attended both a voice lesson and a Vocal Recital the second time, so I wasn't able to attend any Masterclasses. But the talent I heard at the recital was phenomenal (that day they congratulated a student who had just made the Met Semi-Finals :) ). I met a sophomore baritone during the voice lesson, and he was great to talk to. I wish I'd met more voice students though...

Northwestern's campus is breathtaking, on Lake Michigan's lakefront. Really, it's gorgeous. They call it the "Ivy League of the Midwest," and it truly is.

Congrats on a wonderful audition musikchik....may the other 4 be great too. Northwestern sound gorgeous.

I think that the audition went well! The faculty are actually really nice; I was thiniking that b/c it's northwestern, they'd be a little full of it, but nope! We only had to sing 2 songs (or I did, rather,) and then no theory! Imagine that. The recital, going along with what musicchik said, was AMAZING! The students are great! I went to university of miami after that one, and the students were NOWHERE near the calibur of NU.

except Miami has a far better jazz and studio music program than Northwestern. In fact, Northwestern's jazz program is practically non-existent.

Oh well. Northwestern's classical music programs are better.

Who's coming to NU next weekend?

I am, lol.

Tight man, when's your audition time? Mine's Friday Feb.23rd @ 1:30

9:30 AM on Friday... wooot. I'm traveling by myself =/

Wow, 9:30? And you're a pianist right? Your audition is so early...but at least you don't have to worry about your instrument adjusting to the weather. I heard it's gonna be another winter nightmare up in Chicago...

Whatever the case, good luck!

Yup, I am. It's going to be freeezing. I'm not sure what I'm going to wear for the audition.

Well, good luck to you too.
