NU Gifted and Talented Summer Program (CTD)

Who has gone? What was your experience? Is it considered to be research by adcoms, or more like an educational summer camp for rich people? If you later applied to Northwestern, do you believe it helped you? Thanks in advance! :)

Research? Absolutely not. It’s basically summer school that gives you honors credit for high school (unlike most similar programs, which offer college credit). It’s not going to hurt your application, although I doubt it will help that much. You might get a couple extra 5s on AP tests out of it, which might help you earn some AP scholar distinction.

What if it’s an AP class? If I get a 5, it’s college credit

I’m not sure what you mean–yes, you can take AP classes in this program, which might result in you scoring 5s on those AP tests, but not remember that not all colleges accept AP credit, so you’ll need to check with NU first if that’s your main incentive for participating in the program.

Do you know how to get involved with research? Or like an engineering/medical internship somewhere?

You’ve been asking a lot of questions that you could answer yourself by utilizing this forum’s fancy “search” feature.

Yes, I do–go call some professors at local universities. Using the search features as described above, I found this[/url”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/summer-programs/1063234-how-apply-independent-research-internships.html]this relevant thread.
