D got accepted to engineering at GW. She also has admission to Northeastern engineering with a great scholarship. Is Are there big differences in the program between schools? Any advantages of one over the other? Cost will be similarfor both when merit aid is considered.
We love Northeastern and GW. Both are good fits for her.

Both are located in large cities but have some fundamental differences. First of all Northeastern has a co-op program that is the best in the nation and would give your child work experience before leaving college (child would graduate a year later). George Washington has many internships available, (not all pay). In terms of engineering, Northeastern is ranked #46, as GWU is ranked #90. Not only this, Northeastern is an up an coming school. GWU is more well-known nationally and internationally. If cost isn’t an issue I would suggest Northeastern (hence my username). I may seem biased, but with good reason.

My daughter is an engineering major at Northeastern, who also got into GW and seriously considered it. The coop program is by far the biggest advantage of NEU. While GW does have the internships, they are 4 months, not 6 and not as integrated into the program. A big city campus was one of her prime criteria, which both have, but NEU has more green space and she felt a nicer campus. Another consideration was travel abroad - she has already done a Dialogue (summer session) in Japan and will be studying in Denmark next semester - getting engineering credits. Overall, she has been thrilled with her choice.

Thank you krnboston and Northeastern 2018 for the details. D is liking NEU the more she talks to people.

Which engineering discipline is she planning on studying?

She is undecided at this time.

Both great schools. Campus at NEU is a REAL college campus. The GW is a collection of buildings in the city (there IS the other GW campus about 15-20 minutes away that DOES have the real college campus.

Can’t go wrong either way. Visit both and enjoy.
Best of luck

D has chosen NEU and sent her deposit. Coop and undeclared engineering was the attraction. Thank you for the input. I am officially a husky mom.

Congratulations and welcome!

My daughter paid her deposit to NEU for CCIS.
She turned down: Pitt, RPI, WPI, Stevens, GW and Rochester.
She likes the coop program and Boston.
I was impressed with the CCIS dean’s presentation on how they focus on undergraduates.
