so yea im premed in northwestern yay!
however, i hear that the orgo there is a man killer.
in reality, how hard is it?
and how well do northwestern grads place in med schools compared to other schools?

You can get the info from premed advisor. I was told the placement rate has been around 80%. that said, the average MCAT score was 34 among that 80% that got admitted. That’s a high average. So its clear how much the name gets the credit. On the other hand, it suggests that most NU students have done well on MCAT

SamLee knows his *…jw are u in med school right now?
I was scared by orgo too (compared to bio tho i liked it 20x more). Your grade is entirely based on your lab grade and 3 tests + final. As Sam said in a diff post the profs really test how well you know your * and can apply it. They’ll usually give u some straightforward questions but one or two that are really trippy and u need to think out of the box. U can practice all the book problems in the world and they won’t help u on the test.
My advice for the profs to take (i dunno about this upcoming year tho)
1st quarter - Wasielewski (tests were pretty much from the book but that might have just been b/c it was intro material like naming ****)
2nd quarter - Lewis (i took lambert - some of his questions were difficult)
3rd quarter - Trzupek (have to take him - very nice guy and always willing to help; don’t take him first qtr tho u will DIE - quizzes every week).

Everything about being premed at NU is hard. However, I can guarantee you that if you get through it, even with somewhat crappy grades, you can definitely get in to med school and do really well in med school. Right now, I’m doing an MD/PhD program and all the stuff that we’re doing in biochem, molecular genetics, etc is stuff that’s been drilled into my brain at NU. Plus, if you can memorize and organize everything in Orgo and Bio, then studying for Anatomy is not too much harder. Bottom line, if you can make it through this you’re pretty good. Hope the encouragement helps =)
