So I was admitted into Northwestern..and i REALLY want to go there. However, I got full-scholarships to Rutgers University and University of Pittsburgh. What do you all suggest I do? Do you think it's worth paying 50 grand for Northwestern if I could go to the state schools for free? Would the education be worth the price difference?

I really need help because I would really be very happy at Northwestern, but I'm still hung up on the money issue.

No question that NU is the better school, but $200,000 is a lot of money.
If all things were equal, it would be an easy choice, but they are not.
Go to Pitt.

You will be sorry you choose NU to get your 15 minutes of fame in high school because you were going to a prestigious college instead of the school that would let you learn just as much at for free…go be a big fish in a smaller pond…if you work hard, you will have glowing rec letters and great stats that will help you far more than mere name recognition at NU could do for you, and you won’t be in debt during or after school-you’ll thank us all 4 years from now that you didnt blow your money on NU

Definitely go to Pitt or Rutgers. They are both great public universities. Decide whether you want to live in western PA (which somewhat has a Midwestern culture) or New Jersey.

Unless your parents can up with the money and not flinch making the offer to pay (none of us know their financial circumstances) I’d go with the scholarships as well. I presume you’d do Honors if at Pitt - I’d choose this over Rutgers - not into the NJ commuter scene - and prefer Pitt basketball.
