Hm.. so I recently got rejected from UPenn Wharton :( and now I'm having trouble deciding where to attend. There are lots of pros and cons about these three. Basically, I want to major in econ (maybe even minor in Finance.. if it's offered) and eventually get my MBA at a top business grad school. Getting an MBA is tricky though-- and that is where I am having difficulty deciding where to attend.

Northwestern pros:
great size, beautiful campus, good econ dept., awesome location, motivated students, strong academically in most depts
Northwestern cons:
doesn't have an undergrad business school (will that go against me?)

NYU pros:
Stern! good business school-- strong in Intl' business and Finance, in the heart of manhattan (lots of job offers potentially..?)
NYU cons:
huuge undergrad pop, other depts. aren't as strong academically as northwestern, doesn't have a real campus

UMich pros:
has a great undergrad bus. school, will be in honors program
UMich cons:
I'd have to apply my soph. year to get into the business school, huuugee huge school

My parents are really concerned about the amt of resources I'll have at college. They think: bigger college = bigger resources. higher ranking in undergrad bus = better. location in NYC = more job opportunities.

Are these necessarily true?
Is going to northwestern in Econ just as good as attending Stern? Is it risky going to UMich b/c I might not even get into their business school?

similar situation here ... NU vs NYU cas vs Umich same major/interests.
from what i understand, nu is great at econ, dont forget kellogg is #3 in the us and top 10 worldwide.. i looked into jobs , most firms recruit at nu, although probably not as much finance as at stern but still plenty... as for me, i more or less eliminated umich , too big etc, long shot at getting into the busines school , and i guess its no worth going nyu cas únless im sure of getting in transfer to stern... and the nu campus seems unbeatable (especially the sailing lol)

honestly, I've been swayed towards NYU Stern in the past two days.

Northwestern was my dream school frosh-soph yrs in HS until I found out about Wharton.... and also I was tempted to go to NU b/c of its size, ranking, beautiful campus (presence of one), location (near home and in Evanston), type of students.. it felt like the 'safer' choice b/c I'd be grounded in good lib arts, whereas at Stern it's strictly business with some required classes at CAS (which doesn't compare with NU)...
but then again, my sister went to NU for grad and hated it. She felt like the students there were there for the 'name/prestige' of the school and not for actually learning. She is pursuing elementary education, and even though the program/school is ranked high, it didn't teach her how to be a good teacher.

Then...I talked to a UM b-student who gave Ross great marks... but UM just isn't my type... soo I kinda ruled that out. However, it made me consider more the undergrad b-school... She talked about how she often does case studies in groups and how the b-school students are really a community-- kinda like how it is in the business world... she also said Stern and Ross are really similar-- only difference is the environment.

i more or less decided umich wasnt really for me, nyu i stupidly applied to cas so im not going there on the assumption i might be able to transfer and im starting to like nu ,,the campus , if i end up not liking business finance NU is tops in most other things and anyways it seems ndergrad business is a load of bs... if u go into business its the mba that counts ... (take a look at entrance stats for mba's most people majored in sciences etc.. )

Well you're not going to graduate school so I don't think this should carry very much weight. I'm sure most of the people she was with weren't even from Northwestern!
