<p>I got off the waitlist from NYU Stern. Now i have another tough decision. Northwestern or Stern?</p>
<p>Both are great schools and I would be happy going to either. I want to major in something like finance or economics and work in the business field. Btw, I live in NJ and I am pretty knowledgeable about NYC. I have never been to Chicago.</p>
<p>Any tips on where I should go?</p>
<p>I personally picked NU over Stern, I'm in MMSS, but I had already decided on NU before Stern, mainly for financial reasons, but I also felt Northwestern offered more flexibility academically and was less cutthroat (not to say that's a bad thing, but I really wasn't looking for an environment where people were willing to sabatoge each other [this is from a second-hand POV] for the best grades possible).</p>
<p>Also, being able to double in Economics and another major which I would truly enjoy appealed to me.</p>
<p>As I told another poster with a NU or NYU question, I think it's no contest: Northwestern is the superior school, and the total college experience is better too, unless you don't care about having no campus.</p>
<p>Northwestern has Kellogg (worth it's wait in gold), and NYU has Stern...there is no comparison really.</p>
<p>Just went to NYC today to visit NYU. It is located in a very nice area of the city, full of shops and restaurants. I wouldn't be disappointed living there for 4 years. However, since it was memorial day, i couldnt go into any facilities, but i walked by most of the freshman dorms, and they seem to be located in good areas as well though some can be located pretty far away from stern, which i walked by as well.</p>
<p>I am still leaning towards Northwestern however, but I want to go into the area of business/finance, and NYC is the capital of the world....even Chicago cant compare to the opportunities here.</p>
<p>I'm a Northwestern student from NYC, and even though I applied to several schools to transfer (not gonna get into why, though being closer to home was one reason), NYU was not one of them because Northwestern is simply a better school. I'm an economics major here. From everyone I've spoken to, undergraduate business majors are not the way to go, though if thats what you're set on, stern is as good as any other outside of west philly</p>
<p>This decision really depends on where you wanna work. NU will most likely get you into a Chicago office, while NYU Stern will most likely land you a job on Wall Street. Is one school cheaper than the other? If so, I'd just go to the cheaper school, because both are heavily recruited (NYU has the advantage for Ibanking, while NU has an advantage in Consulting).</p>
<p>I would go to NYU Stern mainly because of your interest in business/finance. I would say Northwestern is the far better choice if you wanted to major in Economics, but it doesn't even have an undergraduate business program. Along with what CNI said, you can get a job very easily on Wall St. coming out of NYU, and the summer internships in NYC are plentiful, as well.</p>
<p>I know NU gets heavily recruited. So ive decided to stick with NU and perhaps get an internship in NYC since i live in NJ</p>

<p>Hmm, odd, one of my best friends goes to NYU (Stern for finance)-- she says it's not cutthroat, and that there's generous grade inflation.</p>
<p>Anyway, OP, I agree with both CNI and CollegeDK. Also, keep in mind that NYU has a significantly larger undergrad student body than NU (may affect your decision).
If I were in your position (and not sure whether I wanted to major in finance or econ), though, I'd probably go with the cheaper school. (Incidentally, NYU was cheaper for me...I just couldn't give up NU, lol.)</p>

<p>NYU Stern for sure. keep your GPA high get some extracurrics and u have a good shot at a legit ibanking gig in nyc. NYC firms (you wanna be on wall street dont you?) recruit much more heavily from Stern than NU. most econ majors at NU are struggling to land a job, but from NU u hav a much better shot at a solid gig in chicago than NYC</p>
<p>but keep in mind, if ur planing on going to B-school the NU name is a lot better than NYU, i would think (could be wrong on this considering NYU is a top 5 business program). as far as pedigree is concerned, the NU name is more prestigious, despite its humble midwest roots</p>
