Number of Penn ED Applicants for Class of 2014

Has anyone come across any stats on how many students applied ED to Penn this year?
Just wondering...

like i said in the other thread, wait until the dp article comes out

way too early to have any results yet

What’s the dp article?

^ the admissions office will release info to the daily pennsylvanian, which will publish it

Last year, the number of ED applicants wasn’t released in the DP until early December:

[Early decision applications drop 8 percent | Interactive Feature | The Daily Pennsylvanian](http://thedp.com/node/57887)

Im not sure where i saw it, but i I saw an article in which Furda said there is a same amount of ED applicants this year as last year. He also said that this year’s applicant pool is the strongest yet.

^ You may be thinking of this article about the Class of 2013:

[Total application numbers steady in 2009 | Interactive graph | The Daily Pennsylvanian](http://thedp.com/node/58503)

I’m pretty sure that Furda hasn’t made any public comments yet about the Class of 2014 ED pool. Of course, if you can find a link to an article that says otherwise, . . . . :)

^^ yeah that’s what I was thinking of. oops.

Do you guys think the number of ED applicants will go down again this year?

I think so… especially considering the economy… I bet a lot of people will want to compare different packages and might be looking for merit aid, so they might not want to lock themselves into an ED agreement.

Just a thought though. You never know.

^ Yeah, i’ve been trying to figure out how last year’s economic crisis will affect penn applicants, and more specifically, wharton applicants (since that has the most direct relationship to the economic crisis if you know what i mean).

Should be pretty interesting, will just wait for the DP article to see.

Though I believe that Penn will receive roughly the same – or slightly fewer – ED applications this year, I’ll play devil’s advocate.

Penn is now ranked #4 in U.S. News, tied with Stanford, MIT, and CalTech. In other words, U.S. News has ranked Penn in the CHYMPS tier of schools, where – might I add – it rightfully belongs.

Penn, unlike the other CHYMPS schools, offers an ED option that confers an advantage in the admissions process at Penn. Some people will certainly be tempted to apply ED to the #4 school in the country.

^That’s a good point, especially since so many schools have thrown away ED options…
