Number of students penn will take from one school?

so basically i have bad luck and this year 8 people applied early to penn when usually there are like 4 or 5, last year 3 people got accepted to penn early from my school.

i was wondering does penn have a limit on how many students they can take from one high school?

any comments would be appreciated :)

Per school quotas would be a stupid policy. Individuals’ strengths will always trump this. Don’t worry. Plus you can’t change it anyway.

No, but more prestigious/rigorous high schools will tend to give you a boost.

Get a list of the last 3 to 4 senior classes of your high school. Count the number of individuals that got into the school you want to get into and produce an average.

If the average is close to the number that applied then you should have no problems.

I am unaware that colleges put a limit on the number of individuals from any one high school. But your research of the last few years should give you the answer. If there are spikes of acceptances then you can conclude that it is possible to have a really good year and accept more than average. If you don’t see any spikes, then it is a low probability event.

I would speculate that the need for geographic, ethnic, and international diversity is so high that the schools have relatively little leeway in changing the acceptance patterns even for a good class.

Like people said, it really depends, but I have friends from prestigious public high schools who had 10 people come to Penn their year, implying at least that many were accepted.

I agree with some of the responses. There is usually an average number of kids that a school will accept from a high school and that number really depends upon the high school itself. But if Penn usually accepts 4-5 kids from one high school and has done so for several years without great variation, the likelihood is that the same thing will happen this year, no matter how many more kids are applying and no matter how great they all are. The ivies spread out their acceptances across the country and across the world and that’s how if fall out, no matter how frustrating that may seem to the rest of us.
