Number of times ACT taken

Does upenn care how many times you took the act? I took it four times and I’m worried that will hurt me.

Thanks!

Nope. They only look at your highest test sitting

wait… pretty sure UPenn requires full testing history

http://www.admissions.upenn.edu/apply/whatpennlooksfor/testing

if you scroll to “Additional Information” it says you have to send in all testing scores :\

No school should require all tests to be sent any more because they can’t tell who is complying and who is lying and that is a terrible position to put students in. Cheating is terrible. But having a system that so temps students to cheat because they harm themselves if they don’t cheat and they know schools can’t tell, is simply horrible.

They require all tests to be submitted, but they only use your highest score

they don’t superscore for ACT, but they do for SAT… which sucks

@lostaccount Yeah, I kind of agree. My preferred solution is that the testing companies indicate “all scores as of…”. If they don’t do this, then I agree it’s kind of pointless. I’d be interested in the number who don’t comply. Hopefully it’s quite low.

Agreed. They should have the same policy for both tests. In addition, when I visited last April, an AO told all of us at the completely filled information session that they do in fact superstore the ACT. I emailed them, and they said that they DO NOT superscore the ACT. If you are going to tell us information, at least tell us the correct information

They do not superscore the ACT to clarify for any of you that were confused. The reason Penn does not do score choice is because a) they want to see how many times an applicant took standardized tests, b) if an applicant took more than 3 (I think three is the consensus max number of times you should take a test), are they improving significantly each time, c) they want to give a chance to those who cannot afford to take the test multiple times, and d) they want to see how desperate you are. Personally, I think taking the ACT four times is excessive unless you improved significantly, and that can negatively speak to what your priorities are.

So I took it four times do you think they will look down on my app Because of that? Scores 30, 32, 31 then 32.

I think they do look down on that (not immensely though) to be honest, but there is not that much you can do about it now.

That would not make or break your application
