Same here. Compared to the other schools DD was accepted too, this is BY FAR the least amount of merit awarded. :disappointed:

Are you in-state? Most in-state flagships donā€™t give lots of merit. UMass Amherst is notorious for this as well. They will give merit to OOS students to discount the tuition to be more in line with in-state tuition.

We are in MA. so not in-state for URI. DD got the Presidential Scholarship, which is 10k/year there. I was just surprised, thought it would be more. Just shows how different each college is when determining merit.

Iā€™m also in MA and a colleague of mine was able to negotiate that figure a bit. Worth a tryā€¦

DD accepted to Clemson nursing yesterday! Donā€™t find out about merit award until March but I have heard the scholarships are not very generous. So for an OOS student I am sad that it probably wonā€™t be a viable option for her. But we will wait and see ā€¦

You are right.
Usually instate comes out to be a lot cheaper than any out-of-state flagship university. Also, nursing is a competitive major so oos universities may not want to spend scholarship dollars on BSN nursing students! Instead, they may want to use the money for oos students applying to other majorsā€¦

@Rnmomof4 ā€“ Congrats on Scranton
@Bamamama1234, @OceanAir, @twinmom2026 ā€“ Congrats on URI

For now, letā€™s just wait for results and compare. Hopefully, there will be a clear winner in a few weeks and decision-making will become straightforward!!!

Congratulations!! Would you mind sharing your daughter stats?

@Vicky2019

Good morning!

I wish we could make a decision in just a few weeks. :wink:

We wont find out if daughter gets off the wait list at PLU (the only school she has been waitlisted so far) until Feb and SDSU plus Fullerton donā€™t come out until March.

PLU would likely trump all schools besides SDSU. That will be a conversation.

Tricky thing is that the PA schools (York, Bloomsburg, Clarion, or IUP) will def be in the running if no PLU, SDSU, or Fullerton. I donā€™t want to spend the money or time to go see those schools in person until we know about the closer options.

This is a list of the schools, in order by cost, that she applied to that are under 30k per year. (with merit) These are all viable options. 30K is our hard cut off but the low 20s are what we are aiming for. Youngstown is our least desirable due to location but def the most affordable direct admit.

(UNM, Westminster, and U of Hawaii are still pending but she got into the school with merit so I know how much it will cost- just need to her final word on nursing)

Tuition Room and Board Merit Cost of T/R/B

It will be fun to look back at these threads on May1 when all decisions are made. I honestly have NO IDEA where she will end up.
