Nursing Visit Case Study

Just returned from a quick overnight visit to Case. It is tough to find the time to take off two full weekdays so shortened the tour and we drove up late in the day on Thursday in time for our daughter do an overnight and us to attended a cocktail party. We then went on tour on Friday and attended classes. Daughter overall had a good experience but did not make new friends because the other visiting girls placed with her opted out of participating in the larger organized activities. The two other overnight visitors were not friendly at all and made for a less than wonderful impression. The actual student hosts were really nice and did try to make my daughter feel welcome. The school experience of touring the nursing program and sitting in on a language class were very good. Campus food was good. Freshman dorms were just fair. Library on campus is amazing. The best one we have visited. I wish my daughter had the chance to interact with other perspective students more but the two she met on the sleep over were not positive interactions. I think the school should create an organized and facilitated time where students and current freshman could have lunch or do some socializing in small groups with several upperclassman with the goal of introducing the inbound students to each other and having some positive interaction. Some type for mandatory mixer. It would have to be highly organized for it to work. Overall we like Case and think the school did a great job communicating with us as parents. We are grateful to Case for setting up this visit. With the exception of the disinterested future students our impressions are positive we had great conversations with the current students who were assisting with the visit and our interactions with the staff at the nursing school was very good and welcoming.

We were there Thursday and Friday with our DD and she had an amazing time! The CWRU live event gave her the opportunity to talk with a ton of different student organizations and students that attend and she felt so welcomed and the host students were great as well. She stayed in Tyler and most of the admitted students and their hosts hung together. She did the ice cream thing and bowling as well. I’m sorry to hear that she didn’t get to participate in all of the activities that went on. It went a long way in my daughter feeling that this is definitely the place for her. She met some potential roommates and is looking forward to this next chapter.

@gail22 My daughter is a second year nursing student at Case. On another CC board, there was an admitted nurse from the Bay Area who I offered my daughter’s information to. She didn’t contact my daughter. If you daughter would like to speak to mine - her e-mail address is sjs211@case.edu. (The private message ability is odd on this site).

To be honest - you probably won’t get a positive reaction from perspective students. CWRU tends to be one of those schools that gets overlooked because most can’t get past “Cleveland” - and not a first choice. That’s why I always call it a hidden gem because even though its reputation is stellar, it’s not New York, Boston, etc.

The class page on Facebook is a good place to start making connections. My daughter met a few people from our area before moving in. She went on a few lunch dates - one is even in same field and the other has become her closest confidant. There are also regional “send off” parties - ours in Northern California always seems to be hosted in someone’s home and is also a great resource.
