Nutrition Question.

Hello! I am a student who might be attending this school depending on how other applications turn out. One major thing I am wondering is: Are there nutritious and healthy dining options at FAU? I ask this because I would have to live on campus and get some sort of meal plan, but I am also very "enthusiastic" for eating healthy and would always look for the best options. Once again: are there any healthy food options at FAU? if you have any advice I would surely appreciate it!

If you look for it, you can definitely eat healthy on campus. The dining hall offers all sorts of food that varies, and they have vegetarian options as well, which actually taste quite good. Since you have the choice, you can have salads, soups, sandwiches all the time and whatever main dishes are being offered that day. The restaurants on campus have a wide variety as well, offering anything from Quiznos, Wendy’s, Fruitblendz for smoothies, to Mexican food. All in all, it’s completely possible to eat healthy (:

As helloiamaleks mentioned, the Centre Marketplace buffet (which is open to all but more often frequented by residential students) has a salad bar and vegetarian options, including veggie burgers (if I’m not mistaken). The Breezeway cafeteria (used more often by the general student population) has mostly fast food options so you’d have to get whatever you normally get at a place like Wendy’s, Quiznos, tex-mex or sushi. In addition, they have a Chick-n-grill place where you can get baked chicken/rice/veggie bowls there too.

There are also a number of “Outtakes” convenience stores that sell packaged salads, wraps, soups and things like Power bars.

Hopefully that gives you an idea of what to expect. Obviously you’re not the first or only student that wants to eat healthy in college, so I think you’ll find quite a few accommodations here.

Truly, I think the only thing FAU may be “missing” is a SaladWorks-type place. I’ve suggested it to them on multiple occasions and they said they’d look into it, but as of right now they don’t have one on campus.
