NVCC Transfer Student

Hello guys,

Let me first start off by saying I did very poorly in high school up in till my senior year and ended up with a GPA of 3.2 (I don't know if it is weighted or unweighted). I also never took my SATs/ACTs because I knew I wasn't gonna be able to get into any of the schools that I wanted to with my low GPA.

I go to NVCC (Northern Virginia Community College) and so far here are my stats:

Fall 2011

ACC 211- A
BUS 100- A
ENG 111- A
SDV 100- A
MTH 1- A

Spring 2012

ACC 212
HIS 101
ECO 201
ECO 202
ITE 115
CST 110

Summer 2012

MTH 163
ENG 112

Fall 2012

MTH 271
MTH 241
CHM 101
HIS 111

Spring 2013

MTH 272
MTH 242
CHM 102
HIS 112
PED 116

Current GPA is 4.0

If a maintain a 4.0 or close to it, what are my chances at the following schools:

Georgetown
George Washington
University Of Virginia
William and Mary

Also should I take my SATs? Or is it pointless at this point?

My final question is when do I start applying? Do I apply to colleges after I get my grades for the Fall 2012 semester? This would be right around late December. Or do I do so earlier?

Thank you all in advance.

Extracurriculars? Hooks? If all you got is a 4.0 then you have little chance at Georgetown. Can’t comment on the other two, but you should be good for Virginia.

I just have work experience. I’ve been working since I was 16 at a retail store. Should I join clubs?

Played football first two years of high school also. Does that count?

Someone at your CC should be able to give you the best information about UVA and W&M, seems like they would have some sort of agreement with VA CCs.

Several Virginia schools have programs - I understand the requirements are very specific school-by-school. Basically it needs to be solid grades (A’s a great!) in a college prep program (what I assume your’s is) rather than a vocational program. A colleague’s daughter completed her Associates’ degree at NoVA CC and transferred to UVA, entering as a 2nd year with some additional credits. I don’t believe she retook the SATs, or that they consider it at all. Check with your CC per entmom’s suggestion, also the admission offices at your target schools (but do it after they’re done with the current Fall 2012 crunch!).

bump…
