I applied as a Computer Science major to all.

Could you maybe provide a little more info about the subjective parts of your application? Elaborate on your ECs, your rec letters, essays, anything. At schools as competitive as Cornell and JHU, as long as you’re academically qualified, it all comes down to those. You do seem to be qualified, although your UW GPA is much lower than the average, but I’m assuming that your school is extremely competitive and difficult, judging from your class rank. Overall, you seem to have a decent shot. I’d say reach, which is average for an applicant to schools like those.

Yes, I go to the largest Charter school in the country, and for a time it was locally known as “suicide high.”

Anyways, for my internship I hold an unpaid quality assurance position, and I basically test android applications for a company whose projects deal with a gamut of user conveniences. This summer, we worked on a project that did verbal translations between languages. Community service at my church is your typical cleaning, maintaining facilities work. For my display work, I recently did a project in which I designed a modern, vandalized rendition of Thomas Jefferson’s desk, which was supposed to provide a subversive commentary on Jefferson’s character and idiosyncrasies. The basketball team actually required a fair amount of commitment, with about 2 hour practices every night and games every weekend. To be honest I’m not very good, and I got cut from the Junior Varsity team in my high school after my Junior year.

For my rec letters I asked my English teacher who I had for both sophomore and junior years, and she loves me. I had conversations with her everyday and participated in class discussions. I also asked my 11th grade Calculus teacher, and she adores me as well. In fact, I am now her TA and she has called me one of “the smartest students, and most reliable TA’s” she’s ever had.

For my common app essay, I talked about 2 years of my life (8th-10th grade) when my dad worked 190 miles away from where we lived, and detailed my growth from him living away from home from an extended period of time.
