NYC Combines for 2019

@NYart15 I imagine that Combines could potentially be different for each school, but I’m not sure. One school may use it for a sort of prescreen and then ask you to audition, (which is what it sounds like TxState may be doing), and perhaps another school may use it as their audition. As Voice Teacher stated, SU has extended offers from Combine auditions.

@MTDadandProud Thank you for posting the information!

would you be able to do combines if you are already scheduled for 1 of the schools on the list?

^^^^ I would think the answer is yes, but contact Hollly Johnson (e-mail address above) at Shenandoah to be sure.

@VoiceTeacher Are you able to provide us with more information regarding Combines? There is a post above, but I’m wondering if you happen to have any updates re: schools attending. We were just informed that Missouri State will not be attending…Thank you!

Are there any similar programs for theatre performance “just acting” BFA candidates? This sounds fantastic for MT kids but my daughter wants to pursue acting (and continue to take voice and dance in college ideally).

What social media is being used to dessiminate information on the combines @VoiceTeacher ?

Does anyone have any updated information for Combines 2019?

We had received a flyer from mtca regarding combines. Just basic info…1/18 @ Chelsea studios. Registration at 9, visit college reps 9-11, open call 11-5, dance call 6 pm.

Prepare either 1 16-bar selection & 1-minute monologue OR 2 contrasting 16-bar selections.
Questions should be directed to holly Johnson. HJOHNSON at SU dot EDU

@NYart15 Thank you!

What @NYart15 said. It will fill up fast, I believe last year enough parents were in-line at 9 am to take all the spots. So if you really want to secure a slot, I would get there early to wait in line. We know it is not ideal, but we have limited options. The good news is that the model has been so successful that it is likely to grow into something bigger and possibly hosted in different locations.

@VoiceTeacher Is there a final list of participating schools? Not sure if previous info posted by others here was official or speculation based on previous years? Thanks!

@lovetoact and @VoiceTeacher Yes, it would be a great help to get the list if it is finalized. Thanks!

For those of you that may have missed it. Below is a message from Kaitlin Hopkins, Head of Musical Theatre, regarding Combines. Combines are held Jan. 18 in NYC at Chelsea Studios. Call backs will be on the days after the Combine so, for Texas State, the Combine is a live prescreen and the callback will be your final audition. Not sure about the other schools (Shenandoah, Missouri State, Wagner, Arizona State, Texas Tech and North Dakota) attending.

“Just FYI! On January 18th for any high school seniors who may have missed Texas State’s deadline for application to the BFA musical theater program for fall 2019. We will be in New York as part of an open call with 6 other programs if you want to come audition for us! We will hold callbacks on Jan 19th and 20th. Please help us spread the word to anyone you think may be interested. And a Happy New Year to all!” -Kaitlin Hopkins on Facebook

@MTDadandProud We reached out & Missouri State told us they would not be at Combines this year.

@lithpool Thanks! And interesting . I wonder why they are still on the flyer?

@MTDadandProud , @lithpool . Missouri state will be in NYC on March 9th for auditions scheduled through Getaccepted

To the adults that stood on line and registered a half dozen students or more at once… your a jerk.

@afterp89 - how could they do that? Were they coaches etc?

I’m on a thread on FB where a girl posted that she got in line at 7;45 a.m. and she did not get an appointment. I also read parents have gone to stand in for their student but I had not realized multiple students could be registered by a single person. Seems unfair.

@VoiceTeacher - this might be something these schools want to look at…
